What am I missing? I don't see anyone winning. Higher prices, more shortages and the market's going down. People on fixed income and living on their 401's are nervous and not optimistic. If I was a billionaire it might look different.

That's just it though, we still buy it. Few people will buy less food and alcohol from Mexico and the auto parts will continue to be needed for the automobiles and their repairs, most of which are American cars. The lumber is still needed for construction. Fewer parts and lumber will only lead to needing fewer workers. Unemployment is already a less than 4% and that is about as low as it can go. There are always people changing jobs and those are counted in the unemployed numbers. The 4% number is considered full employment.

Why don't we quit panicking over the things that "may happen" with tariffs and go with "you know what it wouldn't hurt to try them". If we sit around and let other countries with cheap labor undercut our prices and business's start moving there for cheaper labor we need tariffs. Or if you want to be warm and fussy about prices don't pass any tariff laws and wait until there are no more manufacturing jobs left in the USA. There is no free ride. No matter what those that don't know any better say.

Tariffs are nothing new. There have been president on several occasions put tariffs in place, and every time they were followed by a recession. The only thing it accomplishes is foreign products cost more and US products go up to match their competitors prices.

I'm recently retired now. First place I worked for 27 years and the jobs were moved out of the country because labor was cheaper there. The last job I worked at for 20 years was moved out of the country because labor was cheaper there. Maybe that may not be an indicator to you that something needs to be done but it sure rained some cold hard facts down on me.

You are so fearful of paying that extra dime you don't care what happens to those of us that are losing jobs to the countries taking our jobs and are more than willing to preach to the choir.
