V3 trickler issue

Good afternoon everyone I’m working to get a V3 trickler back up and running. I had to buy some new O-rings for the trickler part and when I got it running today after a few rotations, the trickler would let out a squeal which I determined to be the aluminum tube riding against the brass inserts . It would squeal and then throw powder kernels out the end of the tube like popcorn, so I took it all down and inspected everything and put a little bit of barrel grease on both ends of the inserts taken care to make sure there was no grease inside the powder hopper Ran it again. Solved the noise. Is this a normal issue that everybody’s having? Is there something safer than putting in Grease on those contact points thanks for the help Scott.

Scott, there should be no reason to lube the tube. I believe Adam changed the bushings in the housing to another type of bronze.. or something

Probably best to contact him and see..
You can still get the tube from him

Don’t know if your is grooved or galled.. I’d try to polish up the tube to see if it fixed the problems…
Clean the lube off everything…
That was the down fall of Adam’s set up…,

I went this route, never looked back: https://ingenuityprecision.com/product/ingenuity-powder-meter/

I had the same issue. Adam states NOT to use any lube so I would take it apart and wipe it down with alcohol and function would be normal again - for awhile. I finally got tired of always having to do one thing or another to it so I bought the Ingenuity trickler and am super satisfied with it

Thanks for the replies. I sent an email to Adam. They’re closed until January 6. I’ll see what he says. I’m kind of married to the system right now. I don’t wanna put any more money into it, but I’ll await his reply and maybe they’ve upgraded the bushings to a different type of material like oil light or something hopefully thanks for the replies.

Make sure the cables are plugged in correctly and nothing is wrong there. Clean the bushings and the tube good with lighter fluid and don’t contaminate them with any lube. Just keep them clean and they’ll be fine.

Check to see if the cable is plugged in good. Then pull the tube and clean with alcohol , also clean the bushings. Check to make sure there isn't excessive wear on the tube at the bushing contact points. I then put some powered HBN or graphite in the bushings and replace the tube and this will fix the problem. Repeat every so often. You can use pencil lead if you done have HBN or powdered graphite. Sometime the Tube/bushing contact points just get gummed up a bit.

From the manual page 18.

If the tube spins extremely fast and sprays powder:
The tube is not spinning freely in the bushings. When it catches, the
belt stretches, releases, and the tube spins. Remove the belt and
the tube should turn smoothly in all positions. Polish the tube with
fine sandpaper if necessary.

I usually just try to clean mine up with carb cleaner and finest scotch-brite pad. If you sand aluminum, it will oxidize rapidly in air, then the resulting oxide layer is in effect aluminum oxide and is abrasive.

Is the inside of the trickler and tube oxidized from powder being left in it too long? If it is take it apart and smooth out the tube with steel wool or some other fine abrasive.

I occasionally clean the tube and bearings on my V3 if it makes a noise. I use carb cleaner or alcohol. I have tried both oil and no oil, doesn't seem to make a difference. When oiling, its just a light wipe of oil in the bearings with a q-tip then wipe off any oil in the bearings or on the faces with dry q-tips.

The adjustment of the trickler flow is the most important adjustment on the V3. It has to be 1/2 grain per second. I run mine for 30 seconds, then weigh the amount and divide by 30. This is easy to control with the app on your smartphone. Adjust the tilt of the trickler as required.

Adjusting the trickler flow really made my V3 accurate and fast. I have not upgraded to a V4 because my V3 does the job for me so well. I typically use it for loading Varget for 22-250 and 6BR. The 6BR takes 10 seconds to dispense around 33 gr of Varget, which is faster than I can seat a bullet in a Wilson die in an arbor press.
