Who's got a new truck ?

honestly after doing the the up pipes and down pipe then the new y bridge cold side intake i forgot how much I hate working on automotive crap. I’d rather work on the Cummins there’s more room. All stick with with doing large engine generation work I swear less that way most times.
 
Cummins are great engines, my biggest gripe is the Dodge ride like a tank compared to my Duramax. My brother just sold his for that reason.

I dont think some realize either that you need to use the exhaust brake some wether towing or not so it doesn't soot up and the actuator stops working, I dont know if its a new dodge problem or diesel engine thing or not but I helped my grandson change the actuator and exhaust brake on his 2008 Cummins and thats what the diesel mechanic told us to use the exhaust brake and just not for towing to keep it clean
 
GM's bellow up pipes do suck. Better ask for up pipes for a older Duramax and not non EGR pipes for an EGR truck as they won't sell em to ya.
 
I'm looking for a new full size P/U truck.

Who's got a new one .... how do you like it and what did you have before.

I am leaning towards a Tundra or a GMC Sierra, but have not done any research as of yet.

Just bought a new truck yesterday. 2024 Ford F150. Kept my 2014 Ford Super Duty F250 as I need a heavier payload truck for my slide in PU truck camper. The half ton will be the truck used for most of my towing and longer trips. Can't say how much I like the new truck yet but ended up with a turbo charged engine which I was skeptical about getting. It just had everything else I wanted and set up perfectly for my needs. Reports from users of the 3.5 EcoBoost engines in the half ton trucks is they get 18-22 mpg depending on the use. Not hard to take. My Super Duty will be my HD tow hauler.

Every now and the my 3.0L diesel 1500 4x4 breaks the sound barrier, even with heavy tall and wide E tires. This leg was along hilly windy coastal road, no wind and zero traffic. I have found out the slow pokes and passing them is what kills the mpg avg. Cruise on a freeway 70-80mph gets 27-28 religiously. But the inflated cost of diesel brings the true economy back to the level of a Hemi V8

It's hard to find many problems with those. I assume they do, but I asked a Ford mechanic if they had phasers and he replied he didn't know as he's never had to open up a 6.2.
My 2014 6.2 engine does have cam phasers. That said, I've had zero engine issues with this motor. Brakes, rotors, tires and replace the serpentine belt before out of state hunts. Been the best engine I've ever had in a truck. My 6.8 V10 was the next best engine over all. Had a 7.3 diesel in a 2001 F250 SD but not long enough to comment on that engine.

Well we all know the history on a 7.3. v10s were spotty but of course earlier had spark plug issues. I'm looking for a priced right 6.2. I love the massive parts on the f250 Dana 60 front ends. Those vacuum seals in the steering knuckles aren't my favorite though. Most wear the outer axle tube seal gotta keep an eye on it. Work on everyone else's at home but just can't afford one of my own and feel comfortable about it. Truth is I could I'm just not set in my mind to spend $30k on a truck with 90,000 miles.

If I could get half that for my 250, I'd be happy as hell. Has 145K on it but that on the bedside rears and one can corner makes it unappealing. Trucks in excellent shape otherwise. Still does what I ask of it so not much of an issue.
 
At this point, If I were to go out and pay for a new truck, it would have to be a GM of some sort.
I'm not mechanic enough to work on a Ford (any more).
And I've never been enough of a rodeo hand to drive a Dodge.
I'm a Ford truck guy but even if I wasn't, I'd still look hard at the Ford trucks. The new aluminum/alloy bodies are the only way to go. Ford trucks are probably the least of the 3 companies to have body rust issues with their trucks. Dodge and Chevy always had specific places that they rusted out as did Ford but Ford wasn't as bad. Now, Ford has zero chance of that happening. I have a 2014 Ford F250 that's ugly with some rust cancer. Started after only 7 years. When you pay 50k plus for a truck, you expect it to look the same after 7 years if well taken care of. Steel bodies will rust eventually. My new truck body will look the same till I sell it. I've seen 2015 used Ford trucks on the lot that look as good as they did new. I'm surprised Dodge or Chevy hasn't taken a page from Fords truck play book.

A lot of guys made fun of the Aluminum beds on the Fords when they came out. My 2019 F250’s bed is aluminum and is still undamaged after many loads of heavy oak firewood hauled out of the woods, top soil, full loads of crap to the dump, etc.
Still no damage and of course no rust.

Right I saw all those commercials too. Chevy had Howie Long dogging out the Ford tailgate man step too. Now Chevy has the ultimate Puzzy man step. That's what companies do to point out others weaknesses. They'd have been smarter taking the aluminum body idea from Fords than the better man step idea.

When you're pushing 70 you appreciate little things like tailgate steps and grab handles. My new to me '19 F150 has both, and even though I don't always need them, I'm glad they're there when I do.

Right. I get why these trucks commercials bang away at their competitors but like you said, these are practical options to have when reaching certain ages. I'm in my 60s and nothing has changed...Yet. At some point, I'll be thankful for some of the conveniences the trucks offer. The tailgates now have lift assist and the Ford aluminum tail gates really don't even need it. They are very light. My 2014 has the tailgate man step and I have used a few times. Mostly for convenience not need. Had an injury and it helped during the recovery.
