Who's got a new truck ?

Yup! Four years ago, I went to look at a new truck. The Ford dealer had a nice F250 but they wanted $60,000. I asked about a used truck. They had a three year old F250 with 100,000 miles on it but they wanted $55,000 for it! I asked why. “It has aftermarket rims and tires.” Then they told me they’d give me $15,000 for my 2012 Toyota Sequoia that had 60,000 soft miles on it. Needless to say, I left disgusted! A week later I bought a small trailer and called it square. $1500 spent and I can haul anything a truck can!
They like to super inflate price of a few used trucks on the lot to make it appear like a new one is a much better deal. I guess it works or they wouldn't do it!

I am an ex-boat guy who used alot of 3rd world gas. Thinking of Tanzania and not wanting to break down in the boonies...this is what I did with my gas outboards: install a racor filter for the appropriate flow range and then add a clear diesel fuel bowl to the bottom that has the 2 threaded plug holes, one for the drain and the other for a WIF ( 12v water in fuel sensor) that went to a racor alarm panel on the dash. Not exactly CG approved but safe for anyone but extreme idiots! This way you can be alerted if you got a bad slug of gas, stop and drain it off. Just an idear for you. I never liked the solid filters because you dont know how much water is in them.

I was a mechanic for 15 years, worked at GM dealers. Mostly engine and electrical including deisels. But did pretty much everything. Have always been a Chevy guy. Thier designs just make more sence to me. When they put the def on the deisels they took the most reliable engine and made it the least. The emisions on new diesels are a nightmare and many times you cant fix them. The engineers dont even know how to. Still talk to my buddy who took over my job when I left to do the gun work daily and its no better. I guess the new 10 speeds are junk too. Hes seeing a ton of them in the shop. I wouldnt buy a deisel unless you need it to make money or you will trade it in after the warrenty is up. When it goes down and it will, its not cheap.
Everyone who likes diesel pickup trucks should own a 6bt Cummins ( 12 Valve) once in their life! Fugly Dodge or not!! I used to buy/curb/sell rare extra low mile cherry puff diesel trucks for side money, and about 8 yrs ago I found a 97? Dodge 4x4 12v with 18k miles in Montana that had been garaged its whole life. Still had the new smell inside. I drove it 350 miles home and it was quiet, comfortable, smooth and an absolute joy to drive. When you just touch the key it jumps to life like no other diesel. The epitome of a 100% mechanical diesel truck. In many states these trucks are still emissions exempt if original. I used to sell them as fast as I could get them. The problem was getting them! I had standing orders from midwest farmers.

Read my post again. You said you use the screw on canister style as in your link. What I was saying is to look at using a Racor diesel clear bowl water separator bowl with water sensor, which is screwed on to a gasoline filter. This way you can be alerted to water, see how much, what kind and drain it then keep on cruising. Pic of std gas one with just water drain to swap out with (pic) of diesel bowl with 2 holes on bottom. and the sensor pic. and the dash mount water alarm

Most of the stations also sold kerosene. Pretty sure they were pumping it into the diesel tanks in the middle of the night and dumping oil in with it.

Too many fires at 3:00am (when they were closed) at service stations reported in the news paper(s) (in Dar).

As my injector mechanic said " all of the diesel in Dar is poison"

Here's a few of the trucks I've owned back in my "real truck days".
When I got done using these, there usually wasn't much left of them. But by God they did real truck stuff while they lived. As a matter of fact, a typical weekend would prolly cost a thousand bucks worth of devaluation on one of todays "trucks".

Oh, and by the way, this is what we used to call Land Cruisers.

"You will own nothing, and be happy...."

My wife and I laugh at the fact that every time we map something on our phones, it defaults to "walk" or "bicycle". Even if it's 300 miles.

15 years ago the last DODGE truck was marketed. They are RAM trucks. Incredible to me how backward so many are on that issue. Where you been from 2010 to present?

Stellantis, the current ownership of what used to be Chrysler corporation, is now marketing the TRUCK OF THE YEAR. That is according to Motor Trend. It is the RAM 1500 with the in-line 6 cylinder Hurricane turbo engine. One thing I do know of it is fuel mileage is no better than the V8 Hemi engine they used to use. More torque and HP than the Hemi is a 3.0L straight-six engine. To me it will be a couple years before that develops a proper reputation.

As for selling a deleted truck, I already have had inquiries by others seeing my Cummins diesel 2500. Used a small muffler for the delete and it is not in any loud and has never shown black smoke on acceleration. It is much like my old (here we go again) Dodge diesel from 2004, the Duramax from 2001 and the GMC 6.5 diesel I had in 1994.

Alex Wheeler may have seen my truck but then he probably would not have seen or heard nothing to tell him it was a delete. In another year, hopefully I will still be around after these heart issues, some lucky person may get a chance to own it. It's the way to go if you live in states that ignore such things.

Well if I had to do it again, which I might, then I would first get myself vaccinated against 'Cummins fever' and then find a garage queen lo mile 06-07 4x4 GM Duramax and strip it and tune it. The Cummins might be great but GM's Allison is the strongest link between your trailer and your engine. The GM has the highest quality interior and the best paint imo.
Also, might sound petty, but I can't stand these modern hollow phony Mack truck style front hoods and high bed sides. #1 I can't see what I am driving into when off road downhill and #2 I can't shoot off the hood or off the top of the bed. I can't even shoot off my Ram1500 4x4 with no lift kit and just 32in tires. Sucks.

Tesoro thats Kinda what I did. My dad passed away earlier this year. He had a 06 3500 duramax with 36000 on the clock. I purchased it from mom and then did the necessary upgrades and maybe a few that it didn’t need. It replaced my 22 Ram that I never drove.

Where I lived in SW Oregon was the core of "Ram Country'. I had friends who ran our local specialty 4x4 full spectrum mechanics shop for repairs to custom frame up builds. One friday pm after work I stopped by with a case of beer and we got to bs'ing. I asked the owner 'how come you work mainly on Dodges, Cummins etc but I notice most of you drive Duramaxes!' and he replied ' cause we dont like to work on our own sh**t after we get off work'.
