Who's got a new truck ?

A delete and extra fuel fiter. The holes are so small in the injectors now they cant handle any contamination in the fuel. I remember replacing all 8 injectors in a duramax with 2000 miles on it because he got some dirty fuel.
A new fuel filter often is cheap insurance, mine gets one every oil change.

I've thought long and hard about deleting my 2018 Duramax but decided not to because if you ever get rid of it its gonna have to be a private sale and if a state has emissions it ain't flying.
I hate the Def system on diesels thats what happens when the gov. gets involved though.
Well if you dont have a private sale you are going to get reamed by a dealer, who will only ever pay you low wholesale! A properly deleted Duramax will fetch top dollar from a buyer in a legal state via ebay. Because> the problem nowdays is getting the parts/ecu that is tuned for a delete. Totally illegal anymore for a shop to do the work and fines start at 100k so you wont get it done unless you are friends with the shop owner. Plus you have to buy your modified ecu out of the county ( Canada) as EPA wont even allow for 'off road' tunes anymore.
Green Diesel had the best non-aggressive tunes but the owner now only does them for better performance over factory settings. He is an ex-auto industry computer enginner. I believe can still buy his 'off road' (aka full delete) tunes out of Canada.
However if you had a proper full delete 2018 Duramax why would you ever sell it?! hah.

I'm not against it, how many people you know keep a brand new vehicle untill its ran in the ground? Things change unexpectedly. Alot of people get extended warranty its not for everybody.
What happens if you delete your truck and your job or something else takes you to a state that has emission laws?

Alex whats your opinion on diesel additives not anti- gel as you know in the winter in montana we have to sometimes.
I use Hotshot everyday, both non- dealer places i know told me to because of the sulpher they have taken out of the diesel.

Just keep the truck registered in the state where there is no smog testing. Problem solved! Actually the problem was solved last November. The bonfire of epa regulation books will be seen from space.

I know a lot of people that are selling their newer trucks and buying old trucks and fixing them up to keep. My shooting buddy sold his newer Ford Diesel and bought an older Dodge with a V-10 engine. He loves it for towing. My neighbor has an old Ford 250 4X4 with a 390 engine and completely rebuilt it and painted it himself and loves it. It's a lot cheaper keeping an older truck running then buying a new can of worms.

Hey I get it, its just not for everybody.
Drive on any dealer lot see how many 2,3, 4 year old trucks people trade in, there's just things to consider before people delete.
I have never really understood why normal people 'trade in'. ie If you have a 30 thousand dollar vehicle then why sell it for 20 thousand to a dealer who will then just sell it to someone else for 30 grand? If u dont care about the loss then why not just put it up for private sale and give the person of your choice a smoking deal and feel like you helped someone?

Only thing I can think of its why we drive chevy, Ford, dodge, Toyota etc.
Theres people that just except that they will just have a vehicle payment for life and gotta have the next newer thing.
How many run to the store and buy the next Creedmoor or PRC that comes out?

Yup! Four years ago, I went to look at a new truck. The Ford dealer had a nice F250 but they wanted $60,000. I asked about a used truck. They had a three year old F250 with 100,000 miles on it but they wanted $55,000 for it! I asked why. “It has aftermarket rims and tires.” Then they told me they’d give me $15,000 for my 2012 Toyota Sequoia that had 60,000 soft miles on it. Needless to say, I left disgusted! A week later I bought a small trailer and called it square. $1500 spent and I can haul anything a truck can!

It's the 90-10 rule, i.e. 90% don't want to deal with tire kickers and they prefer the easy button, just do a trade in and if so, let the dealer/next buyer deal with any deficiencies. They drive off with a new or newer vehicle and except for payments and insurance, it's painless.

What do you consider incredible for fuel mileage?
A 30 mile round trip to the market will usually be 30 mpg in the summer. 27 winter. Keeping the speed below 62 usually results in high 20's on the rural roads.

75% of the miles on my truck are driving back and forth to Montana. Half of the time I am pulling a small trailer at 80 to 85 mph. When it is hot I am idling with the A/C on when on the prairie. Usually 100+ miles per day on gravel roads. Last 3400 miles average mpg is 23.5. Last 8700 miles average is 23.0

This truck averages almost 10 mpg better than the 2016 6.6 L 2500 Duramax that I previously used in the same way.
Does yours have the towing package with the 3.7 rear end and two speed differential?
No towing package. 3.23 gears. 4 wheel drive.

"...two speed differential?"??? Two speed differentials are usually used in heavy trucks, on the rear axle, and operated by air. To my knowledge they are not available in light duty trucks. Do you mean a transfer case? My truck has a two speed transfer case.

Maybe, but the left coast libtards in CA, OR, and WA will double down on emissions regs because "we have to do our part to curb global warming."

Almost anything.....

Yeah, brain fart. 2spd transfer case is what I meant.

They like to super inflate price of a few used trucks on the lot to make it appear like a new one is a much better deal. I guess it works or they wouldn't do it!

And except for throwing away 40% of the value of their old vehicles!. But then those types dont look at money other than in monthly payments. Also one has to make an effort to sell privately, and usually with out of pocket costs which will be recouped.

I trade. The couple of times I tried to sell it myself it was a pita and in one case cost me money. You only have a short tine to sell the old truck to get the sales tax deduction and if it is sold out of state you also dont get the sales tax deduction. Seems used truck buyers always try to steal it, even if you priced it at a good price. I also trade before the warranty expires so any problems are the dealers not mine.

I dont have a strong opinion. The main problem is contamination and additives wont help. If the fuel is clean the fuel rail pressure is so high I cant things getting gummed up. Wont hurt though.
