Do we like G10 for pillars?

I was doing my morning routine of browsing the McMaster and sipping my espresso - Came across G10 tubes that are the right size for pillars.

What's the good/bad/ugly of using g10?

I use aluminum for my pillars.
No experience with G10, but I have used micarta extensively for bearing wheels in (non-precision) traverse slides. It is tough, durable stuff.
I doubt either material would compress under the proper torque specs when mounting an action.
Personally, I detest doing any kind of machining/grinding/sanding/routing or polishing on any kind of fiberglass material.

I can't edit my post, but you may want to look at Mouser/Digikey for circuit board stand-off spacers.
I have a pile of alum spacers that i bought from an electronics surplus store (Wacky Willy's, long closed).

Quite awhile back, Some were making epoxy pillars, So it should work, I just think Alum is better and they are quick to make. If your time is worth more, Brownells sells ready made pillars.

I've been making them out of 7075 or 17-4 stainless. Figured it would be nice to just have some "ready to go" material that's light and strong.

I like these from Amazon, the nice thing is they are available in many different lengths.

Aluminum Spacer 5/8" OD x 1/4" ID x Choose Your Length, Round Spacer Unthreaded Standoff Bushing Plain Finish, Fits Screws Bolts 1/4" or M6 by Metal Spacers Online (15/16" Length, 10 Pack)

Micarta is G10. G10 is epoxy. Had some experience with it making formula racing fins for windsurfers. If you have a bunch of it, no reason not to use it. No reason to track it down exclusively either. I knew an old boy that built rifles that made it into the winners circle at Camp Perry and he used lamp rod.

Speedy has used G10 for pillars for many years. For those that are unfamiliar, G10 is really strong stuff, glass fiber and epoxy, light strong and the coefficient of expansion is very close to steel.

So I read this thread, go to Youtube, and guess what the first ad they give me is?

"Do you need metal?"
