25x47 Lapua

@Matt_3479,

Take the RL16 results with a grain of salt.
We don't know when or if we'll see Alliant powders again.
RL 16 is available online

Yeah, I'll be shooting Vihtavouri!!
And my local wholesale/distributor has it in stock.

Well I managed to get out and shoot some ladders with bergers today, rl16 and n150. N150 just isn’t impressing me to much with ladders yet the numbers look good. I picked a couple nodes I thought were there for each powder and went back to test them. The n150 slightly disappointed and might give it one more go before putting it back on the shelf. Im going to explore varget while I reexplore n150.

Rl16 on the other hand had a clear node. The numbers weren’t the best I’ve had and seem to be bouncing a little bit between 5-10sd’s but the groups and poi’s are consistent. I fired 6 3 shot groups at 102 yards that had an average of .177 moa, then a few at 600 to just confirm.

Dang, great shooting.

What's your ballpark load with N150? I tried it and pressured out just a little slower than using Varget. I was using R16 at 39.5 with BR4 primers for 2880 and it was a hammer but didn't like any other primer. With 40.4 of N160 it's doing only 2800 but 3 back to back 5 shot groups averaged just under .35" The N160 has been very consistent and consistently good. All loads are using the Berger 135 .005" off the lands and a 28" barrel.

I never actually finished load work with either varget or n150. Both powders showed excellent potential in numbers but ladder tests didn’t look as tight on paper. I’d like to revisit both n150 and varget as I know I’ll be able to get them to shoot as I still had great results overall.

I was told 2780 plus or minus was the sweet spot for the 25x47 by a few shooters and my barrel just so happen to shoot both rl16 and n150 At 2780 plus or minus a little. 36.8 of n150 and 38.9 of rl16 got me there

Always heard the same. Down was better than up. Further support. .243 to .257 is up .014. AND .264 down to .257 is only .007. Half the movement.
I presume necking down has more brass material to work with, which someone in this thread pointed out. If I get an extra 2 hours in the next week or so, I may dig up some 243 and 6.5x47 and compare. Has anyone weighed virgin Lap 243/6.5x47 and compared. I guess the 6.5 would naturally have more mass?
