6 x 47 lapua slow powder tests

Did some testing with 6 x 47 Lapua, 31" Bartlein 4 groove, 0.090 freebore and Berger 105 Hybrids seated to 0.20" off lands.

N160
40.5g - 41.3g velocity 3113 - 3150 no good nodes all shot better thann 2" at 200 yards but no stand out loads

N560
41.8g - 44.8g velocity 3085 - 3297 good node at 44.5g 3284 ft/s 0.75" group at 200 yards no pressure signs at 44.8g 3297ft/sec

IMR 7828 SSC
41.5g - 44.5g Velocity 2982 - 3196 good node at 43.3g 3126 ft/sec 0.50" group at 200 yards. slight ejector mark at 44.2g heavy ejector mark at 44.5g

I will try 44.5g N560 at 600 yard F calss match in a couple of weeks.

Thanks for the information. Any chance you can tell us the temperature when you were shooting the load test. It can get a bit toasty in the desert, so I have to pay attention to that information.

Jon,
thanks for the info...have you tried h4831 or imr 4831? I'm in the progress of building a 6x47 and have thought about imr 7828ssc.... it works really well in my .243 with heavy bullets....seems to be very accurate in your rifle also. Let me know if you have used the H4831 or imr 4831.

thanks,
vinnie

Vinnie,

I have not tried H4831 looks like it would be tough to get enough in the case for the faster node, H4831 SC might work but acording to QL it is about 100ft/sec slower than N560. Let me know how it works out for you if you decide to give it a go.

Lazy -

Howdy !

My "Deep 6" wildcat has case capacity in the 6XC - 6X47 range.

IMHO - The VV powders you list, I myself would not call "slow"; in your application ( or mine ).

There's powders a plenty between VV160 and IMR7828/SC. RL-19 and AA3100... to name just 2.
As for IMR7828... now THAT's slow.

My Deep 6 has a node @ 43.7gr IMR7828. Since I gravitate towards high load densities ( whenever I can ), IMR7828 worked out superbly.
My Deep 6 cases are chuck-full @ that powder charge wt, while load pressures are fine. Obtainable vel using IMR 7828 shows it to be slower than vel some other powder choice might provide. Yet, it's hard for me to argue w/ superlative accuracy, no matter what the vel.

Have also had great success w/ RL-22 in my "Deep 6". Cases are very nearly completely full, and it has a powder charge node that shoots well w/ 3 different bullet weights.

I can fit more 4831sc in a 6x47L case than I would be confortable firing, using a 4" powder drop tube. I have just loaded a ladder with it ready to test. I would be very keen to see the QL data for 4831sc and the 105 berger hybrid if you care to share it.

Jason.

If I were going to try this case, RL17 would be the first powder that I would try. I have had some good results with it.. Wish that it would work in the 223!

my 12 twist 6x47 lapua burning rel17 will push 80 gr fowlers to a nearly unbelievable velocity without excessive pressure .i had to repeat several times to be sure my chronograph wasn't malfunctioning. it wasn't...the load...i have to use a drop tube to have space for the bullet.
