Sight-In Days at Gun Club -- Whoa...

when I did range coach duty during my time in the Seabees we had some reserve officers come through for qualification. It got very exciting when one of them was thoughtless about swinging his M16 around when he had a malfunction. The roar of several of us and the rangemaster was somewhat deafening and definitely got his attention...

Had to laugh when I read that. Once in Harbor Freight I saw a warning tag on an electric pole saw. One of the warnings was "Do not attempt stopping saw chain with genitals."
My thoughts were, if you're that dense the gene pool doesn't need any of your contributions anyway. So go ahead.
Was at Harbor Frieght and saw a warning on a Ball and Pien hammer that stated "Always wear safety glasses when pulling nails". Got me wondering how the Chinamen pull nails with a ball pien.

Went to a small bore shoot for a particular age group this past spring. The lady checking chambers kept muzzle sweeping people and I noted this to my wife. There were a large number of people all around but none were up. I didn't say anything as I guess I was the only one that cared.

It was also exciting when the range command, "rapid fire", resulted in several full auto bursts...

Had an issue yesterday with a young guy and his girl friend. She's
aiming at him with the bolt closed, while he's down range taking
pics of her with a cell phone. He simply said, the rifle was'nt loaded
and she said she did'nt know......
She will remember for the rest of her life now. Good job.

I used to belong to a club that was also the local police range. Can you see where this is going? It was a small range only about 50 feet wide. Short range pistol at one side and 100 yard rifle on the other side. Two LEOs came to shoot at the pistol side while I was at the 100 yard line. We were the only ones at the range. I asked them if they would like to set their targets and they indicated OK. I left my bench and waited for them to return to the line. So far things are going OK. After about 15 minutes I asked for a cease fire so I could go down and change my target. Sure thing ..go ahead. I'm about half way back to the line and they opened fire! I didn't care who they were I verbally ripped them a new one about shooting when someone was obviously down range. They both stood there and said ... Well, we're over here and you're over there so no harm, no foul. Simply BRILLIANT. A great answer from guys that should know better. I asked them if they would like it if I opened fire while they were down range but they didn't answer.
Sadly I`ve seen this at our local range that caters to LE. I`ve observed some of the dumbest gun handling and lack of safety protocol. The really bad thing is the firearms instructors are tolerant of the carelessness. I'm glad that we have 15-18-foot-high mounds of dirt separating the different pits. Jeff

We almost lost our range because of bad LE safety instructors.
Officer down senerio....Officer shooting up at suspect (no berm coverage for that angle). Golf course calls Sherrff..we have bullets in our walls, heard a bunch of shooting at the range...Sherrff goes to range...guess who's there....the local PD doing training......
They now have their OWN range several miles from. Ours....BTW a 40 SW will travel nearly a mile penetrate a roof and embed in a sheet rock wall.

We watch a tv show on Friday and Saturday night called on patrol live. You would not believe the qualified law enforcement officers that have no idea how to clear or lock the slide back on a pistol if it is not a glock! One officer almost had a accidental discharge trying to open the cylinder of a revolver. Those are the people who are supposed to protect us.

And if you watch any You Tube, you will see that they know very little about the laws they are suppose to uphold. They are recorded on their own cameras. They like to use the "because I say so" law a lot.

In Palm Beach County Florida we were invited to use the Sherriff's range till the new range was completed, and the county commission paid for the LEOs to be range officers. I was expecting a hassle every time I went the first few times. I was wrong! They could not have been more gracious and helpful to the point if someone (anyone) had a firearms issue they would get tools and do their best to help fix the problem. These are the people in our county that do firearms training to the rest of the dept. If the officers on the street are as bad as you guys say, in Palm Beach County it is certainly not the training crew's fault.

I`m glad you have that type of range officers there. That`s not always the case, unfortunately. I helped and advised some training for a sheriffs dept. and the safety was stressed both on the range and on the street. Never had an AD or safety issue. But have witnessed it a good bit where I shoot now. Even the driving into range at a higher speed then posted. Makes a guy scratch his head. Jeff

I just helped a "friend of a friend" attempt to sight in his chosen deer rifle. 760 Gamemaster, chinese / Amazon junk 6 x 24 scope with a stupid Christmas tree reticle. The guy didn't know what the AO was for, was shaking like a leaf, the trigger was absolutely terrible (probably 6-8 pounds at least) and the old rifle probably had never been cleaned properly. Couldn't hit the side of a barn if he was inside the barn. Some people should just find another hobby.

I agree. I saw lots out at Scotia Range when I helped there one time. Had one guy show up on the line with a paper plate for a target, but nothing to fasten to the backer. I gave him some push pins. With the target at 50 yards, he fired offhand. I said about sitting at the bench. Nope this is how I shoot. Five shots later he hit the plate and declared " That`s the one right there". I didn`t help after that. Some should find a different hobby. And without guns. Jeff

I used to clean up the rifle range at the Shooting Park in Fargo ND. It was a pay-to-shoot range but not actively supervised. Never a problem during the ten years I was there. My job was picking up the targets and burning them at the end of each day during deer season sight in. My pay was all the spent brass left behind. I would walk away each day with two 5 gallon buckets full. I cleaned and sold the rifle brass on eBay. I usually cleared $750 each year.
