It is just a name. Pick something and then call your self what ever you want. There is something to be said for having throw away names.

The FFL I used to use was ???? grocer association. That is not what they said when they answered the phone.

Thanks to everyone for sharing your ideas for names. I have gotten some good ideas. I received several emails from the other board members last night and it looks like we've settled on something generic enough that it doesn't draw attention and close enough to identify us. I probably should explain that the reason for not using shooting or guns in the name is to avoid attention when the incorporation goes through. We are involved in finding and buying land for a new range and it's not a good idea to call attention to yourself in that situation. Even in areas that are gun-friendly, nobody wants a range in their backyard. We had a very bad experience with the neighborhood when we tried on a previous purchase. Planning board took about 30 seconds to say "Hell no".

Sounds like planning and zoning is the issue. Any chance of going to an area that doesn't have zoning restrictions? They do still exist.

Not really, We are already on the edge of the distance most members will need to travel to the range. The current place we are looking is somewhat less hostile, but we won't know for sure until we make our proposal to the planning committee. Actually, I'm somewhat sympathetic to folks who don't want a lot of gunfire close to them. At the last place some of the neighbors had a legitimate complaint, they just weren't interested in our plans for what we would do to mitigate the noise. The other complaints were ridiculous. But politicians pay attention to voters. Planning and zoning are an issue, but so is terrain, land cost and location. It isn't like buying a new car where you just walk on the lot, make your choice and drive away. The choices are very few.

About a year ago our local club lost access to the range we had used for nearly 60 years. Right now we are in the searching process, trying to find a suitable property that will pass local codes and neighbors objections.
Help!

The name may be the least of your concerns, neighbors on the other hand may be. A few months ago couple moved into the house across the road from our club and their first neighborly act was to have our club shut down due to the noise. At a township meeting they "demanded" the township supervisors either order the club closed or require noise barriers to be installed at the club's expense. After entering club property, harnessing members having had the police on site two times to have them removed I contacted our club's attorney who not only reminded them the laws applicable for trespass and or harassment but also provided both them and I with this bit of info as far as noise is concerned, specifically the Pa. statutes.

So before even looking at or spending one thin dime on a property research any local and or state laws/restrictions that may apply and or at the minimum have an attorney do the research for you.

Right now we are in the searching process, trying to find a suitable property that will pass local codes and neighbors objections. One of the items on our check list is a new name. We will be reincorporating under a new charter with a new location and name. Our attorney has counseled us to choose a name that is non-location specific and should not have guns or shooting in the name. My imagination function is not currently working well, so I'm requesting some help from you guys. Once again, gun/shooting club, non-geographic, no "shooting" or "gun" in the name.

Help!
