20 ppc AI

Here is why I think the 20PPCAI is the perfect cartridge if you wanna run 39,40 and 55's. I mocked up 2 rounds showing were my 39 TNT are I run and what a 55 would be at the exact same CBTO which is right at the lands. Mine is zero freebore.
On the left is the 39 on right is 55.

What velocities are you seeing with 55’s?

I really don't need to shoot the 55's in my 20PPCAI ive got a BRA, but I might just for giggles.
The 20PPCAI is a good compromise, better barrel life vrs the BRA and versatile with 39-55's having the long neck.
Gonna be a problem for me trying the 55's I only have a 3G 11 twist.

What’s been your barrel life with the bra?

I've only got about 200 rounds on mine, Gabe22BR or 7315br may be able to answer that better. If I had to Guess 800-1000 rounds of course theres some factors that can determine barrel life.
I see no reason a 9 tw wouldnt work running 39-55's, its what I would do if I wanted to do that with a 20PPCAI

Sherm the 20PPC Imp is a great case. I run a 9 tw on mine. I've only used the 39-40 gr bullets. I have some 50 gr but just never tried them since I was shooting squirrels by then. I've got over 1000 rounds thru mine. The most of those were (800+) reduced loads for squirrels two years ago. For that I formed brass from W-W 7.62 x 39. I was was using 39 gr Sie at around 3450 . At the time Eddie H did a 17 cal and 19 cal version ( same case body just necked down) for me but the 20 was simply the best. .

I’ve chatted with Gabe about his. Just wanted your take. Thanks

After four 20BR's (no AI version), I've averaged 900-1000 rds of barrel life (all 9-twist Kreiger or Bartlein bbls and the 55 gr Berger)...except one that went 1500 rds before changing it out (i still don't know why it went that long). That particular barrel (Bartlein) did shoot some amazing groups at 100 and 500 yds though in its earlier life.

I was just going to ask or mention (sounds like very sort barrel life) i could shoot 1000rds througha barrel in one season.or less .i want to love the .20ppc..but i think its just a little to much gas behind the .20's.
The .20VT is just the perfect balance in my opinion for the 20s
If i was set up and could chamber barrels in my garage for myself id get in all sorts of trouble.
All my money would go to barrels and cutters..i already complain reloading is to expensive..hahaha
Guns, reloading, shooting, gunsmithing, wildcating , and talking alll about it ...its just so fascinating.

The 20BRA is certainly no " high volume" rat or P.D gun, I consider it my " specialty" 20 cal. If you wanna push the 55's around that 3700-3750fps, shoot along ways and accurate its the cartridge to do it.
If I'm going high volume shooting I got other 20's or 17's for that.

I mean i get it..a race car needs new tires after a few laps .if your after the performance then barrel life is a little farther down the list of priorities
I dont mind short barrel life, its not the end of the world
Providing you can plan for it.
I thought i would shoot out my 6br i was so excited when it was built..haha..i ordered 2 kriegers, had them both fitted and chambered. One is in a barrel sock in the back of the safe..just in case.ready for a quick change and no wait time when the time comes .but at this rate i think my son will be installing it for use after im long gone..the 6mmbr is pretty gentle on barrels..my AR barrels feels like it take way more abuse then any bolt action ever could. Even my pac-nor fireball barrels are going strong ..
But 1000-1500rds and done..i would have to get two barrels made up right off the starting line. And hope they last a little longer..if finances allow
Good thing is once you burn one out on performance , you have a perfect fireform barrel to beat on instead of a new fresh, sharp barrel
So thats a good thing.
I would like to see videos of a 20ppc at the reloading bench, and the shooting bench doing its work..i think it would be a fun watch..
If enough folks watch it maybe it will pay for your next barrel..
If chicks can squeeze into some outfit and bounce around making money on you tube with underwear crammed. Up there crack .why not a beautiful rifle..
Besides ive seen plenty of breast in my day..every woman has them..
Not every one has a unique rifle to show off..hahaha

Well I can make cases for my 20PPCAI from 6.5 Grendel. Got to shoot one in the mourning but an empty formed case chambers nice. I do have to turn the necks there .235 no turn and I have a .231 chamber but atleast I can make some Lapua cases.
Got 5 - 7.62x39 Lapua cases on the way to make some to so ill evaluate which one to make some Lapua from.
Thanks Rubberduckie and David Conder.
6.5 Grendel on the right and formed 20 PPC on the left.

The .22 ARC case might work as a parent case. You might not have to turn the neck.
I'm not sure of rim size.
