Only reason I haven't been hitting my stash of Berger 25,30 match targets and WCD bullets, my 2 17rems aren't threaded(yet). So I have been mainly shooting my 20,22's suppressed for coyote/fox.

Curious what you went with for Freebore on your 17-204 chamber?
I've been shooting a 17-204 for a few years now, mainly with 32gr rbbt Reeds but they are seating below the neck shoulder junction. Also picked up some Reeds 35gr recently since they had them on the shelf, they are a flat bottom and are even more below the junction.
Now I just have to decide if i want to get a long freebore 17-204 reamer or try something else. Was thinking about maybe doing a .1" shortened 17-204 to get a longer neck but I'd probably still be dealing with the donut issues. At that point a 17 PPC probably is the way to go. Decisions decisions.

Haven’t got my reamer yet…smith sent my dummy rounds to Manson but still waiting.

Sherm, Why the AI vs standard?

Love me an AI, most of my rifles are some flavor of improved but the PPC is already ~1gr more than the 204. Another ~1.5gr might be a little over optimal...?

For reference I'm just over 4100fps with the 32gr and 3970 with the 35gr. And it does kill coyotes like a champ out to 300! Just not as consistent as I'd like.

If your having a reamer made , make sure that the neck is what it should be . I just had a 222 reamer made and they made the reamer neck to long it is like having a long free bore , that i didn't want , so on my 222 I had to make 222 from 223 brass to get the brass neck to match the chamber , so my bullet was in the brass farther .

I'm just an AI fan, less brass trimming and more performance never hurts.
Every cartridge i have AI ive never regretted it, my 20BRA proved to me forming brass can shoot extremely well when done right.

Agreed on the fireforming, this was my 20BRA at 330yds, it was windy the day before so the other group was just over 2” wide. But day to day repeatability and accuracy is outstanding!
Would love to see this with a .17.

Have you tried 30's in your 1 in 10 twist? Shilen shows a 1 in 10 twist good up to 30 gr.
May need a shorter 30 gr bullet if available.
 
I think I would consider 17 Javelina as the perfect 4000 fps capable 17 cartridge for 25 grain bullets, aside from case forming.
