RCBS Beam Scale. Vintage.

I came across this old RCBS Beam Scale. The box is marked Powder and Bullet Scale, but no other nomenclature. RCBS said it's so old they don't even know anything about it. Thought I'd post it because it's in such immaculate condition. I'm sure the pan is located incorrectly, but I wasn't sure the best place for it to hang. I'd have to guess back where the threaded section starts, but I might be wrong. At lease, it would be repeatable.

Anyone know any more about these? When they were made?

In my 50 years of reloading and gun shows I have never seen that model. My guess would be it was an early model which was quickly replaced by a better design. (In other words a short run) It has a rather unique method of setting units using the treads as divisions. It would take some care to use compared to later models with better definition of units.
Your placement of the pan seems correct.

+1. What's the bearing surface/kinves look like?

I remember seeing one of those in my early reloading days. I think all the scales after that were made by Ohaus. Ask our scale expert @sparker.

I’m almost most positive that my Cousin had one like that back in the 60’s but he is is no longer with us to ask. I think RCBS started in the 50s

this thread on Castboolits talks about the scale. estimates around 1967.

The main adjustment is marked in 1/4 grain increments.
The fine adjustment has 5 position, maybe 0.05gr per step?
Looks like half grain on main poise, second poise would be in tenths with .5 movement to break up the half grain adjustments of main.
