what did you shoot today?

Tested a brand new barrel ahead of the IBS Nationals trying to get ready for it. Ran through some seating depth changes and powder at 30.1, 30.3, and 30.5, which seemed to be where it really wanted to play today. 51 rounds down a brand new Bartlein barrel and not a hint of copper, so I'm pleased with it so far.

Been tweaking my 7BR load a little. Primer change, seating depth. Moved the powder charge up, then moved it back. Finalized my deer load this morning. Looking forward to what the Hammer Bullets and 7BR combination will do with a deer.

My 458 RUM bolt gun. I can load it down to hot 45-70 loads, and up a bit past the 458 Lott. Today, it was a GC 500gr cast bullet; about 1800fps. I rescued a ratty OM 70 for the action years ago.

This morning was revolver day, shot my Schofield 45 colt. These fit my hand so nice, it's a shame the Italians charge three times what you can get a SAA replica for. Cimarron Arms $1350, Navy Arms about a Benjamin less. I gotta get off the pity pot...

1. Checking my son’s 7SAUM with the Leupold custom dial. Still not satisfied.
2. Resetting my windage zero on my Dasher. Had an unexplained 2 MOA windage change before the last 300 yard match.
3. Testing some 105 Barts Hammers in my BRA. Running out of case contact.
Problems all around.

Shot my CZ 457 Varmint today with some SK Standard Plus and played with the Action Screws to see what poundage would give me the best groups at 50 yards.

I started at 15 inch pounds and worked up to 17 18 20 22 finding 17 to be the bests setting so far. I will clean the rifle and try again next week. Once SK Standard Plus is done I've got some SK Semi Auto, Pistol Match and Rifle Match to test. I also want to see how well CCI-SV works so that I can use cheaper ammo for practice.

Shot at McDonald Sportsmans range with my great friend and dear cousin. I shot an old 308 Rem 700 VArmint Special and he shot his 6mm Rem 40xB. We played a little "wipe your eye" on 4 inch steel targets out to 500. The 308 has a Viper Vortex 6-20 with the dot reticule. I had never worked with it over 200 yards. After getting a general idea of holdovers using the reticule, I then got a ruff estimate from the 100 yard zero using the clicks. I was shooting off a bipod, while he used a rest. What a HOOT! The 155 Palma and H380 seemed to work just fine for what we were doing. He out shot me, but I felt pretty good about how well the rifle shot with a quick/expedient zero.

I also got my 20VT zeroed out to 300 with 40 grain Bergers and 40 grain vMax. It shot a lot flatter than I expected. I might be running a little warm, but no evidence on the case. It just seemed to hang right in there.

260 Remington at 1000 yards. Worked my way from 300, through 400, 600 to 1000 on 12" plates. That cartridge is amazing. 175 grain Barnes Match Burner ahead of VV-N160.

Went out with the boy to practice and have a fun day. I loaded up 40 of his deer loads for .300 blackout. Barnes blacktip's over H110. 50 Speer 125gr TNT's also over H110 for plinking out of the 10.5" blackout pistol I put together for my wife to use this year for deer. He also might try to use it this year, not sure yet. And of course his favorite the .17hmr came out to play.

Water filled milk jugs, steel and "Louisa" (a cardboard cutout of a doe I made him last year and he named it for some reason) were on the menu today. We had good afternoon and to top it off he popped a Gopher on the way home with the hummer.

Broke in a new Chiappa Rhino 30ds. Have had a National Forest fire ban since June 6 that was lifted on the 8th of this month. This was the first chance I had to shoot for over 2 months. Felt great!

Well, we had our UBR match at Boyle County Fish & Game club, I shot custom with my Speedy Borden BRMXD 6PPC, if you seen the post Jim went to a lot of trouble fixing the bolt. At 100 shot a 262 out of possible 264 and won, at 200 didn't do as well, shot a 245 and took 3rd, 2nd in the grand agg, all in all pretty happy with the gun, so much smoother and don't have to upset the gun when extracting a case. Special thanks to @Jim Borden you are a jewel.

Had my very best day so far this year at the range this morning. I was shooting my Model 12 with one of Brad's 6BRA 1.145" straight barrels. I have been testing RocketVapor's ( Glenn ) bolt lift mod. I finally think I have it set just right. The weather was a perfect overcast, 71 degrees and almost zero wind. Just right for my poor eye sight. I just can't shoot any better.

Dusted off my 1895 Winchester 405. I wish somebody would offer a shotgun butt plate. A mag full is about my limit, even with a decelerator. Before that, I shot a couple cylinder fulls of 45 acp thru the S&W 1955 I bought here. It is a certified 2 liter bottle full of water that spent the night in the freezer killer.
