Aerospike 300 BLK 146 Lulu adventure begins

Not getting kick at all, I look forward to shooting these. There is just a ton of things that you seem to be over looking that will make a difference on target. When you make statement like I’ve never tested for accuracy, you’ve completely missed the boat.

Here’s another example of lack of quality control, this bullet isn’t even round. It was also a full 1/2 grain light.

How in the world will you prove your point, when there are so many other issues with the bullets?

That’s the whole point of the critique to this point. I’m spending the time to hopefully find enough bullets to prove your idea, instead of simply shooting them as boxed, and calling them a failure.

Then again, maybe you’ll prove everyone else wrong. Your tail design is so advanced, that round doesn’t matter.

I have no quality control. It is just me and my 14 year old daughter making bullets with a lathe I just installed in May.

I am open to critique. I love it. I will take any criticism to heart and work to make the bullets better. As to the eccentricity of the bullets I use the analysis first published by McCoy. Many shooters think that slight out of roundness or eccentric center of mass significantly impacts accuracy but McCoy's analysis says that it has only a minor impact. Less than a caliber of impact at 100 yards for a rather extreme eccentricity. Knowing now how much that matters to this forum, I can fix that.

If you need more bullets I will make you a lot with the new lathe settings and get them out to you asap if you are worried about the ones you have.

Dare I be so bold as to say the McCoy study, applied here is either flawed at best, or a complete mis application.

A solid copper bullet takes more pressure to obturate and seal the bore. Depending on the alloy, this might be in excess of 40,000 psi. With a void in the bearing surface as in the bullet I posted, there will be high pressure, hot gasses blowing by the bullet. It will never seal on one side. It will not leave the muzzle straight, and it will have lost a high percentage of velocity. Nothing to do with balance. It will show up on target.

As for whether or not round bullets matter, a Quick Look at the Whitworth rifle and bullet, makes a strong case.

Fine for bullets now. Maybe a gen 1 gen 2 test later on?

I have a rather extreme weakness in internal ballistics that I fully recognize. All of my prior experience with internal ballistics was with the guys at Indian Head who were chemical engineers who talk grain geometry and chemical kinetics all day long. Little details like this are invaluable. Thanks.

Curious how close those 10 bullets are in weight.
Are you going to sort? If so, how?
Sorting has its own challenges.
Honestly, I’m thankful for the rough finish for sorting. I posted a photo of an out of round bullet, I didn’t think too much of it at first glance. When I weighed it it was a half grain light, most others were 146- 146.3, this one was 145.5. Normally on a polished bullet I just would have set it aside, since I could see where the cutting bit missed the blank, I measured. Sure enough, out of round, apparently missing a half grain of material.

Maybe 7 or 8 that fell outside that 146-146.3 range and all of those had visible defects. As the quality control or sorting improves I think they will be very consistent.

Sorting by length is a different problem. Due to the spike on the base, I have trouble with my big fat fingers getting a consistent measurement. I can measure the same bullet 5 times, and get 4 different readings that vary .010”. I can’t blame the bullet for that.

I used 22 caliber comparator insert so I could put the spike in the hole and lengths became much more consistent, .003-5”, but again without a flat base to rest the bullet on, I’m not sure how accurate that was.

Base to ogive same as above.

More or less stopped at that point.

I think that we are again talking two different dialects.

Statistical confidence has nothing to do with perception. If these bullets were covered with "I love Joe Biden" stickers they would still fly the same despite the reaction of the shooter to them.

"Pride in workmanship"? I wonder if the first guy to put rifling in barrels caught this much shit? I'm done. If you don't want to test them then fine but I'm done with your arrogance. Did you really try to use a folk tale to tell a PhD that he needs to be willing to learn? Do you have any idea what a PhD even means? "Love of learning". I've dedicated my life to learning. I shift through the shit on this forum to learn. I have never asked for respect but I'll be damned if I put up with this disrespect any longer.

I would rather my bullets never hit the market than listen to this any longer. If you or anyone else want to work with me to develop these bullets then fine but if you want to get your kicks in humiliatingly a "nerd" online then go pack sand.
lol. HIS ARROGANCE? If that isn’t the pot calling the kettle black then I don’t know what is.

BY ALL MEANS, IF YOU DON’T WANT TO PUT UP WITH THIS DISRESPECT ANY LONGER……PLEASE FEEL FREE TO LEAVE. Nobody is forcing you to be on the forum, you should be more grateful that people here are doing the work the YOU should have already done.

Dave, you can go to hell for all I care about your opinion. I won't sell you bullets if you were the last shooter out there.
