22 ARC Begins

That thing is shooting great! What barrel again?
Its a a Shillen 6.5T on a Curtis Valor action.

Doing a primer test today.

I am having some issues chambering rounds. Occasionally one gets hung up about 1/2” before full battery. My first thought is the tip of the bullet is catching the chamber some where. Once I come up with a final load I will worry about that issue.

What brass are you using? After the hang up does it go in easy or needs a little force to get full battery?

Starline 6.5 Grendel brass. No problem going into battery. The problem is getting into the chamber. I think the mag feed lips need some adjustment.

I built a 22ARC for a varmint rifle. I used a Zermitt "Origin" action with a pre fit Benchmark 22" 1-8 barrel. I then bedded it into an old McMillan stock I had laying around. Everything I shot in it from 60s to 85 Bergers has shot really well!! This was a sample of groups during load testing. Last group is at 300yds. I decided to stay with the 77SMKs because I had a thousand of them on the shelf. I am getting right at 3150+fps out of them so what's not to like!!

Update. (Reminder, this is a bolt gun. Do not attempt to repeat this load in a semi auto. Start low and work up.)

Did a ladder to find if the case runs out of capacity or generates too much pressure.

The 27.6-27.7gn loads were slightly compressed but I did not have to adjust the seating die to maintain CBTO.

Shot at 200m. No doubt that a little bit of the dispersion is due to shooter error, particularly the 27.3gn group. No real significant signs of pressure. 27.7gn had 3-4 difficult bolt lifts, the primers were not cratered and relatively flat (have seen flatter in factory ammo).

I am going to load up some 27.4gn and call it good.
