Old savage 110 243 rebuild

Was given this old savage 110 chambered in 243. Would really like to get it back up and shooting. The one thing I did do is bore scoped it and the barrel is toast. So looking for anyone that may know a good place to get a slightly used takeoff 110 barrel. Also wondering what my options are to upgrade the bolt etc. then will likely switch it to dbm. If anyone has any direction on which ways to go that would be greatly appreciate.

I have several in different calibers and contours, mostly small shank which your's should be. Like marazzi59 said that would be helpful. I also have die sets to go with several of the barrels.

No idea what your experience is with savage firearms but some of the worst looking barrels actually shoot amazing. If you have not fired it yet you may want to. The target will tell you how good or bad it is.

I agree. I have had some wicked lookin barrels shoot lights out before. I have tried to shoot this and just can’t get anything out of it. Put a different optic on to try it and nothing. Checked it myself and some large divets and major pitting. Gunsmith confirmed that he believed it needed a new barrel to breathe life back into this ole girl.

I posted some photos down below. Yep small shank. It is 243 and I think I will just keep it at that.

The rear bolt primary extraction cam is missing in one of the photos it looks like. Do a general Google search for take off barrels and also post a looking to buy ad on here for a barrel.

Axis is a small shank and will work.
Should be 22" with a matte finish.
They have a stainless also.

Soak the barrel with some good copper solvent and scrub the snot out of it, Make sure action screws are tight. Try a known good scope, Look to see if the barrel is contacting the barrel channel, Check the crown.

You may have difficulty converting it to the modern DBM type, as these old types were machined differently.

Yep it is. He supposedly used it for years without it. But I am going to go through and get it all back in order.

That’s great to know before I get too involved with it. Do you know the specifics that would be different in machining?

Only that the bottom of the receiver is machined differently. Even later models than yours that have attached blind magazines will not take the DBM's of today. The 4.4 hole spacing models were the first models to be machined to take the modern DBM's. These models use a blind magazine box that is installed in the stock, not attached to the receiver (like earlier models were); or the box can be used as part of a detachable box magazine model or for a hinged floorplate model. Somewhere around the vintage of your action, Savage did make a detachable box magazine model with a release button on the side of the stock, but these are long out of production and required a special stock. Savage has been all over the place on action hole spacing, types of mag. boxes, styles of stocks, location of bolt stop release, etc. Not a lot of continuity as is found in Win. 70 and Rem. 700 models. Not to denigrate Savages (I own quite a few), just the facts about them.

So a little update, I found a savage 111 barrel, but with the extran length of the bolt and needing to rechamber, I decided to rechamber it for 243 AI, however now am needing the rear bolt cam. Anyone have any insight as to where I could find something that would fit?

I think yours would be a flat rear action. Numrich might have the rear baffle.

Here's a couple round rear baffles:
