JGS Adjustable Reamer Stop

Whichever works best for you. Depth mic, DRO, indicator, Coke, Pepsi, RC Cola.

I would really like to know how people use a depth mic to measure from the shoulder to the headspace gauge without it being totally suspect.

I've seen people talk about having a nut that they can put on the threads up to the shoulder and then actually measure from that.

You could make a sleeve that went from the shoulder and extended beyond the gage. No need for threads. Then measure the distance to the gage. Then do the math. Just seems like there could be tolerance stacking and mathematical mistakes. Simpler for me to take a direct reading.

Yeah, you and I have talked about this but you didn’t understand. Get a thread checker/protector from BAT.

Edit: you’ve got a whole box of barrel nuts you can use for the same thing.

Correct. I do understand the principle.

I was simply asking HOW the person measures... physically. Or the process with the nut.

Just an example; headspace on a Kelbly Atlas is .942
Collar is 1.2"

1.2 - .942 = .258

Install collar and HS gauge. Measure with a depth mic, which requires some feel, because the HS gauge can wobble a little bit. The .258 number is your target on the depth mic.

I want a set!!! Take my money!!!

I wouldn't make my own again. I'd get the gauges from BAT. That way you have a thread gauge that's on dimension for their actions... don't need the action or thread wires, etc.

Kelbly's doesn't sell these, so please dont everyone call and beg for them... Next time your order something... ask nicely for the steel insert that goes into the pandas... Now you have a Kelbly gauge.

I dont know if Borden makes a gauge... but I bet he'd whip some up for a group buy.
