Francis Scott Key Bridge, Baltimore Md.

Didn't do any research on the ship but if it had bow and stern thrusters, they would negate some use of tugs.
It's a sad day when men or women go to work and don't come home.
Trust me a huge 990ft vessel like the Dali has bow thrusters. Most large ports mandate a ship pilot navigate in/out of the port, and most choose to use 2-3 tugs in combination rather that trying to turn around solely under their own power. Also, often times the wind is blowing IN to the port and therefore makes powering off of dock and turning around under ship power very difficult. In fact, if the current is moving in fast enough, the ship may not even have a large enough radius to make a 180 deg turn around.

Guess I hope that phrase isn't used on my next plane ride. "Sometimes things just happen" Wings falling off, Engines in flames....My gut says something isn't right with this. Thats all I need. Dundalk Marine Terminal offline for how many days? The supply chain .... has a major problem right now. Along with the victims and their families. How does a vessel this size lose power?
It wouldn’t be the first ship to lose power. What about this accident makes you think it is anything more than an accident?? What evidence do you have? Seems like if someone was going to hack the controls and smash it into a bridge, they wouldn’t repeatedly turn the power off and on, and if this truly was done as some sort of nefarious terrorist plot, why do it at 130am when nobody is on the bridge? Why not jam the communications from the pilot to prevent the mayday call?
Just seems irresponsible to think this is anything other than a horrible accident at this time.

Wow. When do you manage to sleep, what with so many conspiracy theories intertwined in your mind?

I actually don't sleep too good.

None of this is plausible to you? Oh... you'll read the book later on I guess. When I was in a foreign country, after we raided, let's just say a site, they had lots of special equipment there and they had a very nice library there. Lot's of nice historical reading of our past enemies and one book was about how to make sabotage look like an accident. Funny... they had books about that. lol But yeah, I'm a conspiracy theorist. lol You're good though right?.... just an accident. Day 2.

There is an idea being suggested that the fuel may have been bad/contaminated.

That is a plausible explanation if true.
Diesel fuel can last months and months without going bad. I’d be more inclined to believe water in the fuel somehow, although even diesel trucks have a separate diesel/water separator to remove the residual water from the fuel; but with extreme water in the fuel; the filter is saturated with water in mere minutes and any subsequent water will go directly to the fuel rail. Water to the fuel rail of a diesel engine is VERY bad and will result in seized engine quite quickly. And yes, I’m speaking from experience as I been a fuel systems engineer for 28 years.

I said a gut feeling! How many vessels have passed that bridge in the last 50 years. Look at the speed and water conditions. I have no proof. Just a gut feeling. I'll shut up now. I think I am not alone!

You could be right. I’d say the design flaw in the protection system around the main supports was hugely to blame. Newer bridges build large cement or rock islands for the supports to be centered in.

Hopefully there's someone thinking and a barge crane is on its way and crews lined up to cut it in to manageable pieces and get it out of the way. So far haven't heard any news on that part of the disaster.
From this standpoint, it looks like the politicians/highway people are sitting on their thumbs.
Until the full investigation and recovery efforts are 100% completed, you won’t see a single piece of steel cut and that ship won’t budge one inch.

You've got your head on straight, Dave, and know how to use it.

Consider that AP reports cargo vessels and cruise ships visit the port about 1,800 times per year. That's one ingress and one egress each visit, so ~3600 transits under that bridge annually. The bridge opened in 1977, or 47 years ago. A rough calculation says that's ~170,000 transits. As soon as the first one strikes the bridge there's "something's just not right about it".

It wasn't fuel related. I'm not an engineer...but it would never have fired up again if it was a fuel issue. Not in 5 to 10 seconds.

Not to mention the design is poor at best and should have more protection for the support islands and deflection pylons in front of both the entrance and exit of the port. I thoroughly believe this is a horrible accident, but I’m certainly open to reviewing all new evidence. To this point, I’ve seen nothing to make me believe foul play was involved in any way.

The first thing they stated was that the FBI believes it was not terrorist related.... and this was the next morning. So we're to believe that all of the family member's of the crew had their bank accounts and their activities investigated, however long back they need to go in order to really confirm this. Oh, but if they had their families threatened by some random country, let's say CHINA, we knew that wasn't a possibility as of day break too... or maybe that Biden just doesn't consider that terrrorism... maybe terrorism is only committed by the law abiding citizens, school parents and ISIS?.

Biden doesn't care if this was a terrorist attack via the crew being paid or under duress or some cyber attack. This bridge just became his greatest campaign Event/Distraction. The only thing that would make the democrats happier at this point is if ISIS slaughtered a bunch of us here in the states... then they could campaign against guns, which is their favorite tragedy to exploit and raise money for in the first place.

I don't know anything specific, but I know that the Abwehr was wreaking havoc here during WWII. They were causing massive industrial sabotage, aka accidents. Yeah the ship had a crappy record of inspections and problems... are people planning something going to pick a ship that has the greatest history of passing every inspection? But we'll never know unless some whistle blower comes forward, cause right now this is a campaign event.
WOW….that went into the deep end of the pool. I’d hate to see what happens what you get crabgrass in the summer…I’m certain your neighbor covered your lawn in crabgrass seeds because he doesn’t like you. LOL
