I’m done with Alliant

Reluctantly, I have realized that the price of Powder, as well as everything else,!has been skyrocketing. Why though, does it seem that Alliant powders are so much more than everyone else’s? Is it greed for profit? I now find myself switching to Vitahvouri powders, which I would have never foreseen. They went from being the most expensive, to the cheapest! Lol. Honestly, in my 40 years of reloading, I have never used these powders, but I have always heard wonderful things about them, so I must say I am looking forward to using them and working up new loads. Oh well, I guess in life we must pivot from time to time. I guess it keeps things interesting? (Glass half full way of thinking).

Agreed. When my current stock of Alliant powders are gone I will be developing new loads for most every cartridge I own. It was good while it lasted. The good side of this, there some pretty good powders out there to replace Alliant. Going to miss RL 22 the most I think.

most things seem to go in cycles. Youre right about how it is now with powder and prices. Ive switched some myself but I know things will probably change again if i live very long and i will be changing the components i use again.

Where are you all buying VV powders? I have never seen it in the stores I shop. I know it's available on line however I prefer to buy powder locally to avoid hazmat and shipping which usually makes it more costly than buying locally.
bluecollarreloading
whiddens
grafs
unknownmunitions
brownells
natchez

edit: oh yeah also milehighshooting, and oh yeah I left midway out on purpose because they are absolutely the worst (high prices and terrible and slow packaging).

Don't worry eventually VV powder will be right up there with the others in price so buy a ton of it now while it's cheaper compared to the others.

These companies have found other customers
That’s the interesting part. Finding new customers is not easy. Eventually you’ll price yourself out of business. There are other sports people will gravitate towards.
Polo will not be one of them.
And as much as I have enjoyed this shooting sport for more than half a century, I will not be taken advantage of by gouging businesses. From the manufacturers to the shippers to the suppliers. Seems they are all, for the moment, are making unheard of profits.

I'm in the middle of transitioning my 6BR from Varget to N150. So far it is working better than my lot of Varget, with regard to accuracy and consistent velocity with 103 Gr. bullets. Now to try it in the Dasher.

Governments pay with other people's money. So, they don't care what it costs.

Go back in my Time Machine.
DuPont 4831 in a Tin Can $7.45 a Pound.
McDonald's $.15 Cheese Burger
The $.05 Cigar
Ethyl Gas $.25 a gal.
LSMFT $.25 a pack.

Joe said we are doing fine.

You know it's funny. Just yesterday, I was thinking about how we've all been trained since we were little kids to accept this gradual decline. Not only of our wealth, but our infrastructure. Moral decline is just considered being the more "modern" . And anyone who takes a stand morally against any issue is just "old-fashioned" . It's old-fashioned to believe that Americans should make all their own products. It's old fashioned to work with your hands. It's old-fashioned to keep your guns at home, and leave others alone in the world. Honestly, in a lot of ways I don't recognize this place anymore. It's a new place. Something twisted from the old place. A pile of bones.

Lesson learned curtesy of recent shortages - develop loads using different component combinations. There will likely be one combination that is best and one can then focus on inventorying them. But when they too become “unobtainium”, and your preferred inventory becomes depleted, you will still have known loads and components that work.

Shortages limit snobbery.
