Favorite war movies. What's yours?

1. The Longest Day, for it's historical importance in the survival of civilization.
2. Saving Private Ryan, lest we forget the individual and family.
3. The Dirty Dozen, a great flick, full of WWII vets, plus the first time I saw it was in a B52 bomb crater on the Laotian border with a bunch of grunts summer of '68 (admission 2 filled sandbags).

A really great movie that is just about 100% accurate is Waterloo, starring Rod Steiger and Christopher Plumber.
This is one of the last Epics that actually used live characters instead of Computer Generated Scenes. Literally thousands of them. Watching the battle scenes, especially when Napoleon committed his Imperial Guard, is quite a scene.
It’s a great depiction of 19th century warfare.

Yes! "Act Of Valor," with Gene Hackman and Fred Ward. Small movie, with excellent acting, and a Big emotional impact.

SJ
The one I was talking about is not with Gene Hackman or Fred Ward. it is about-
An elite team of Navy SEALs embark on a covert mission to recover a kidnapped CIA agent.

Lee

Maybe not a "war movie", but what about Heartbreak Ridge?
I love the older war movies. Saw Kelly's Heroes mentioned many times. Of course not anywhere near being accurate, but it was entertaining.
The Black and white movie about Alvin York was a great movie too.

Yes, I know Lee. That one's excellent too. Your Post just reminded me of the Hackman and Ward one, is all.
Thanks for your comment. :)

You know not until you mentioned the Gene Hackman movie, I completely forgot about that one.
have you seen Terminal List? pretty good movie.

Two more to dust off out of the collection....."Raid on Entebbe"
based on a true story. And two popcorn fiicks....."The Beast",
about a Russian tank crew in Afghanistan, and Christopher
Walken in "Dogs of War". a more mercenary movie.

A lot of great ones posted!

I didn't see Murphy's War with Peter O'Toole.... that's a good one also.

Pork Chop Hill has a special place for me... My Uncle Paul fought at one of those see saw battles there. My dad had a picture of him in his military album in Korea digging trenches and he found a skull and was trying to figure out if it was Caucasian or Asian so he could turn it in for identification.

Lot's of great movies for sure! My granddad was in WW2 in Europe. When the movie The Battle of the Bulge came out, he took the family to see it. All he said was "it was kind of like that". He never talked to us grand kids about that, only basic training.

There is a French movie about a N. African or Arabic, hijacking. Very good. I can't think of the name of it. Excellent. French LE group gets it under control.
