Thank you for bringing this one up.. i had forgotten about that chamber!Scott,
Kevin Nevius (Team Lapau shooter) has a reamer made by JGS it is called the Nevius 22
I have had 3-barrels done using the specs. all are great shooters. one barrel as tested at Lapua with C-X 12mm@ 50 18mm@100 barrel was clamped in the jig. in the stock outdoors 7.5mm at 50yds. off a Pappas rest.
Wonder if using Kevin's Nevius 22 reamer would make enough difference in accuracy to be worth the expense of buying one? I've used a PTG EPS reamer on all four of the custom 22RF barrels I've done so far for a Stiller 2500XR & a couple of CMP 40X/XB actions. All shot very well with SK Rifle Match and Pistol Match. I tested about a dozen different lots of Lapua Center-X in these bbls, but the only lot I found that was close to as consistent as RM was no longer available in quantity by the time I'd had enough good conditions to be able to test at 100yds.
Will be doing a barrel for a new V-22 action just as soon as it gets here - that's the only reason I'm considering another reamer. As far as that goes, Mike Bush has a reamer design he calls Ravage that JGS grinds for him that's shooting very well out past 200yds with SK Rifle Match. Two very different applications here, I believe - single shot BR vs. repeater fed rapid fire in PRS-style rifles.

My current ARA UL rifle Evelio McDonald in Texas barrel was done in 2015. he did 3 barrels for me. all 3 shot really well.Hi-NV Shooter
Who chamber your Nevius chambers
Thank you
If not mistaken I believe TKH has stated he cannot really tell the difference, he’s done a lot of good barrels.flatlander,
The Nevius reamer is a 1.5 degree, my understanding is that Eley shoots best with a 2-degree. I found it does make a very big difference in that .5 degree difference, at least in my barrels.
however since you are using a repeater don't know if it would make a difference as you stated. I shoot BR
Tim, you do realize this thread is from 2017. based on the benefit of having the same barrel originally chambered for Eley in 2013 -2014 and then in 2015 rechambered for Lapua using the Nevius specs. 1.50 degree I saw a great improvement. could be the ammo as Lapua did start to make inroads on how their ammo shot. also, could have been I went to lite tuners in 2015 as well. but I still believe the switch to a 1.5 made the vast improvement. If not mistaken I believe TKH has stated he cannot really tell the difference, he’s done a lot of good barrels.
With so many variables from breech to crown, kinda tough to pin it down to a .5degl leade difference.
or it could just be that using information from Kevin's work and testing is what has given the improvement I see and continue to see. using minimum engraving has proven to me to work.Yes Lee I do however it got reinvigorated and todays considerations are the same.
Tony has done barrels for others as well, supplied by others.
The point really is that unlikely you can pin it down to .5 deg. Maybe it’s a better reamer, better chamber overall…..far too many possabilities.

A friend locally does my barrels now with my own Nevius reamer. all are shooters as well.

So the most important thing is the chamber concentricity to the bore?I would like to add a comment on bullet engraving.
I'm not trying to convince anyone to change their opinion but consider this.
A lead bullet must be started down the bore absolutely straight. It cannot self-correct.
I don't know if this applies to jacketed bullets but suspect it does.
Meaning if the bullet starts crooked it will make the whole trip crooked. That will cause the bullet to be out of balance as it spins its way to target. Not a good thing.
TKH
I don’t know the length of the chamber but a live round (Lapua) only has 0.075-0.080 stick out as it just touches the leadeDo you know how short he cut the chamber?
Not a match chamber by current standards.Look at a Winchester 52D reamer.
