Heavy Varmint vs. Heavy Palma

I am having a rifle built for P/D hunting. It will be a 6Br with a 1-12 twist put on a Remington 40xbr action. What barrel should I go with a Heavy Varmint or a Heavy Palma?

LV is the way to go and it might shoot better, better recoil balance as it tends to come straight back
I've gone to LV or my own contour that's really very close to a LV for most of my own stuff. Tunability is one reason but it allows me to put weight where I want it, too. I don't think the hv shoots any better or worse but gun balance and handling can make a big difference, IMHO. The few that I've done on a HP contour have worked very well in the same regards, too. I may even like them better but not sure. I'd have tp run the numbers or check with the bbl maker to know for sure but if a MP will finish at .900 @ 1.00 inch behind the muzzle for my tuner, I'd be tempted to try one. I think it's too small but someone here might know for sure. I think the bigger bbl's biggest advantage is it's a bit better heat sink and that's about all.

‘as always a better explanation than mine but the thought is the same
they seem to want to recoil strai back based partially on the contour, less muzzle shake and better balance

I say heavier the better. Not like you are packing it anywhere but from truck to bench! I have a 28in M24 6mm 'n love it.

Heavier might be better but I can't seem to shoot the difference if so. It's hard to argue with the results, as most SR group guns all run the LV contour 10.5lb gun in both light and heavy classes, and sporter. To each their own and if weight were no issue, you can still balance a gun with a big bbl. Weight classes change everything though and balance is just very important to me in a build.

I will agree with balance thoughts for sure.
Buddy built a 20 practical. Paid extra for 30” barrel trying to get equal speed of the 204R. It worked but vertical was a bad issue. Ended up with a fair bit of shot I butt, problem solved. and it’s a hammer now.
I thought I saw the muzzle dip on recoil. After a video and slowing it down you could see the odd recoil impulse.

Prairie Dogs! fat heavy barrels are better heat synchs for sustained fire and seeing hits. Not a fashion show out there.

Yes, I can see that. Don't blame you a bit. I shoot a 1.25 x 24" straight on my unlimited rifle. It shoots fine but I do find it a little more tune sensitive. Not bad and not night and day either but just looking to wring everything from one, you find little things like that.

for dogs go big.
it is more fun to see your hits!

and yes i have one palma contour. it shoots great but i wish it was heavier. maybe with a brake it wont matter.

HV, less recoil, shoot longer before having to cool. After all you only carry it from the vehicle to the bench. HV seems to track better for me anyway. You’re know more when you get back.
