6BRA….N135

After some searching, it appears that not many people are using N135 in a BRA…could it be? Or is being kept a secret? With it being basically right next to H4895 on the burn rate chart, I figured it would be a quick pick for a lot of people. But as it turns out not much data out there. Anyone have real world experience with it In a BRA with 103-105gr bullets? Currently running 4895 but it’s giving me some fits. So before going to varget, I don’t want to jump over n135 on the chart and possibly miss a hidden gem.

A little on the fast side for heavies but might still shoot well. Very good in a BR with light bullets, up to 80's at least.

With it being slower than 4895 on the chart (but not by much) I figured it would be a great powder to give a try

It's not slower IME.

I was told that this is the powder that Lapua uses in their 6BR Ammo with the 95’s and 105’s. The load runs slow I know that for sure. But in my 6BRA, it shoots really great at 300 yards

I use N-135 in a dasher or two, it performs well.
In the absence of H4895, I tried it and it works.

I have never tried it in a bra........ well, cause I do not have one.

I don't remember how much but just assume it's a bit faster and work up accordingly. Dang burn rate charts can get ya into trouble if you take them as gospel. I don't know how they test these things and it might act slower in different/larger cases and different bullets but anything in the ppc to BR range, it's always loaded faster for me. It's close enough that I can see it being worth a shot, though. Sometimes we can throw all the case fill and burn rate stuff out the window and just read the target.

I totally agree with letting the target do the talking. I’m going to take it out this weekend and tune it up against varget and 4895. I just need to get this barrel shooting before going to sharpshooter in a few weeks lol.

All else equal, I tend to lean toward a faster powder when I can. Only reason is lower muzzle pressure. Probably all between my ears but you can literally feel the difference in recoil on some guns. Same bullet, same speed and all..the faster powder will generate a bit less recoil. If I can feel it, I have to think the bullet does too. Again, probably more between my ears than anything to get hung up about.

Just doesn’t seem to want to shoot as tight as it previously has for me. Every load i shoot with 4895 gives me 4 and 1. I’ve since swapped my firing pin assembly from my mag bolt to my 308 bolt to see if there is a problem there. Will find out Tuesday. I have a decent load with varget and could probably tune it to be just about right. But before I go back to varget I wanted to make sure I wasn’t jumping over a hidden gem that’s all. The attached pictures were from last weekend at 600. I thought at first that maybe it being the 5th shot that went out it was me…but after going back and looking at my other shot marker targets it was giving me the same info..4 and 1. Took this load to 1000 and it was terrible had 4 in roughly 6” and one spit out to make it 11” can’t remember which shot it was though. Shortly after the weather set in and I had to wrap it up for the day. For reference…lapua brass, 205m, 105 hybrid, 20-24lbs of seating force.

I’m really putting some faith in swapping my firing pin assembly in my neuvo. That assembly only had roughly 2000-2500 rounds on it though. So we will see what happens. Looking to get out Tuesday after we get home from Vegas Monday evening and then I’ll have the upcoming weekend to test as well.

IF it is ignition, swapping out the entire FP assembly may give you less pin fall, and result in even more erratic shots.
Probably safer to start down that road by just putting in a new FP spring, and make sure it is a 25 pound spring.
Before doing any of the above, make sure the FP has not rotated a little loose from the bottom cocking piece set screw.
IMO, N135 won't give you the joy you are looking for with that bullet weight range and twist.

Thanks Jack. I have ordered a new pin and spring from bullet central and should be waiting on me when I get home. None the less I picked up 16lbs of n135 for just under 250 dollars. It’ll be a great 223 surplus powder if it comes down to that. Would like to grab some 140 to try eventually though. I’m sure between some more testing with 4895 and varget, I’ll find something that will compete haha.
