223 REAMER ADVICE

A true Wylde has a freebore of 0.2240 plus or minus any grinding tolerance. Sometime back we encountered bullets which were slightly larger that gave us some head scratching when trying to determine touch. Even tried a split neck case sized to zero on Mo Gauge. Long line bullet pushed way in the case with finger pressure. So, we just rough calculate touch based on bullet measurements. Service rifle no problem, foeward spring action will chamber the long line ammo.

On a related topic, the only other reamer (experimental) I have with no bullet clearance in the freebore has a 0.3080 for my M1A service rifle training gun using military rounds, whose projectiles tend to be all over the place. With tight bore KBI, 0.3080 freebore chamber, and military ammo (import and GI) the shooting system worked well.

All brass forms a donut over time. It is the nature of reloading.

The only solution to donuts is to not be near them. Or shoot virgin brass.
How many firings before people start seeing them, either I'm not checking right or I dont have them. I just scraped along the inside of the case with a paper clip.

If you use a Wilson seater you will feel it. You can feel the neck tension changing.

......... or even with a sensitive bench press. I can feel them seating bullets with my Forster Co-Ax fitted with the short operating handle. (Despite neck-turning, expanding Lapua 6.5-284 necks to 284 Win produced copious 'doughnuts', and unfortunately my chamber's freebore wasn't quite long enough to keep 175/180gn bullet shanks off them. Purchase of a Wilson inside neck reamer for use on the same-make case trimmer got rid of this problem for me.)

Try to drop a bullet into a fired, unsized case. If it slides freely, no donut. If it stops at the bottom of the neck, donut. Seating above the donut is great, if possible. Not always the case.....

3 firings you can see the donut, the only way to avoid it is cutting the brass on a idod after each firing. I just seat my bullet out long and the base in front of the donut no issues, I have some lapua brass on about 12 firings and you can clearly see the donut.. it don’t hurt a thing if you seat the bullet right

I asked Patriot Valley what is the best freebore when shooting 75-80 gn bullets, and they said they would use the .100 freebore. That is with the Osprey 1/7 twist. If you were shooting factory ammo to use the wylde .062 freebore.

That reamers dimensions scare me. Tight base diameter could lead to hard extraction and sizing issues. Short neck length could lead to issues if you aren't on top of trimming. I'm sure it may work well for some people.
I have a Criterion chambered with this reamer. No issues of the kind and that’s with some instances of brass that have ever been trimmed and even moved from a gas gun to bolt gun and back again. Base might be a bit tighter, but my even my loosest 223 die (WIlson FL) has plenty of sizing to extract reliably with brass from Lapua to RWS to Wolf Gold.

I think your concerns are largely theoretical.

Perhaps you meant to reply to the post with the reamer drawing and not the one referencing the Criterion PTG reamer?

I honestly don't think I have EVER seen a reamer that produces more incredible results.

223 ISSF. Nothing better all around.

Have you used it in an AR Service Rifle? I'm be interested to find out how it performed with short course mag length ammo. I recently got a 20" AR barrel with a 223 Holliger barrel with a .106 freebore length and I'm eager to try it out this spring and summer. However I am curious about chambers with longer freebores.
