anyone own a CZ accu-shadow?

I know this forum is focused mainly on rifle accuracy, but I'm gonna change it up a bit :)

I'm in need of an accurate semiautomatic pistol. Budget is about $2k...

I do not own a 1911 (yet), so I've been eyeballing a couple STI models. However, when I was at the range the other day, a guy was shooting a CZ 75 SP-01 that was "accurrized" by the CZ Custom Shop. It's essentially the exact same thing that CZ sells as the "Accu-Shadow". He was nice enough to let me handle the pistol, and also fire a couple of rounds out of it. My first thought was "OMG, why is this the first I've heard of this pistol." It's one of the nicest, and most accurate semiauto' s I've ever handled, and now I'm thinking about ditching the 1911 idea.

Now, I have ZERO experience with custom 1911's, so I can't really compare how this CZ felt in my hand, compared to an STI, or the like. So, the point of this post, is to get some feedback from anyone with experience with the CZ platform and the 1911 platform. Are there any reasons I wouldn't want to pick up a CZ?

To keep the conversation off of caliber selection, assume 9mm in both platforms.
 
The upper end CZ's are as good as you can get from any factory. It also fits your price range nicely. The 1911 has more custom and after market parts than any other hand gun... and you can spend a LOT of money playing around. The CZ custom comes with all the bells and whistles, and is built to last. You may also like to look at Sig...but the CZ just feels nice in the hand. Good luck, Gary

this is by far the highest quality pistol that I have ever owned.

anyone have a "go to" load for their 9mm CZ that I could use as a starting point?
Primary use is punching paper... for now.
 
I own a handful of CZ's and they all are worked over with both Cajun Gun Works and CZ Custom parts. The ergonomics and accuracy these guns have from the factory is phenomenal. Once you add a few competition parts the trigger rivals anything out there.

The leade/freebore in the 9mm CZ chambers generally is shorter than most. When loading for it I'd make sure you take a fired case and perform the push test with your bullet and chamber to get the OAL. Head over to CZfirearms.us and check in on the Ammo & Handloading forum. There is a good group of folks there that have plenty of knowledge reloading for CZ's.

Congrats! CZ's are awesome. Best ergonomics out there, for my hand. I enjoy my local shop's ignorance about them and have picked up a few pretty cheap. I don't have an Shadow, just a regular 75B with some Cajun bits installed. My current go-to plinking/target load is a plated 124 over 4.0 Titegroup.
 
I have a CZ75B stock, and a pre-B CZ75 to which I have added adjustable sights. My basic load is 4.0 gn of Clean Shot (Lovex) under 9mm 124 gn plated RN . If I only had one semi automatic pistol it would be a CZ - I am glad they bought Colt. The CZs are amazingly accurate from the factory. (However, you should still get a .45 1911, as well.)

I've been thinking hard about the Dan Wesson DWX. CZ 75 style frame with 1911 fire controls. Seems to be the pistol perfected.
 
I purchased a CZ Shadow 2 a couple of months ago. Awesome accurate pistol. Mine will hold 1" five shot groups at 25 yards all day long. Excellent trigger. I have a Trijicon RMR type 2 with 3.25 MOA dot. The slide and barrel lock up are very tight.

Don't waste money on the Accu model. There are plenty of aftermarket upgrades available if you need them.
 
I have nice 1911s and a CZ Shadow I with all the CGW improvements. I don't even remember everything I did to it but it out-shoots the 1911s in every way. I'm not sure what the Shadow II's give up, I think it's like the 1911 Series 70 vs 80. That CZ is the nicest pistol I own. And I love my 1911s.
 
I have 4 CZ75s and a 87 and I’ve cajonized all of them.
My favorite load is 4.2gr alliant E3 and a 115 fmj or 124gr
 
My Shadow 2 is very accurate much like skeeljc said. I do have to seat the bullets a little deeper but no problems so far.

The CZ Shadow 2 seems to have a short free bore. I dropped the slide on a round that worked in my SA Prodigy and it would not chamber fully. I had to drive the bullet back out of the rifling before I could get the slide retracted.
 
Czs are about the only centerfire pistol that will pry a 1911 away from me. They're good to go after some massaging.
