Electric Cars -- anyone own one?

It's the thought that counts.
See where All Girls Garage was doing an older Volvo. Just picked up a little about it but it looked to be a Hybrid from a newer model Volvo? Something like a year old show? Thought it would be interesting. :)
EV's have their place. Like Jackie, fits HIS needs.

I remember way back in the early 70s, couple of dope grower Hippies coming into the shop with a VW Karmon Giah set up with an electric motor. Don't remember too much about it but I do remember driving it. Not sure how far it would go but at least they were trying. Reminded me of Primitive Pete in shop class.
Couple of outfits in the UK converting Exotics into EV's.
My guess? BIG $$$!! A VW Type II pick up converted for use as a shop truck. Not sure how far they would go.
Remember seeing a Pontiac Fiero at a car show in Nor Cal a few years back converted to EV. Must have greased EVERYTHING to get it all in there.
Yes I agree Ev have there place. Back in the 70s I had a neighbor the was a engineer with GE he had a 2 seat Ev car that he drove back and forth to work (35 miles round trip) He took the country roads because top speed was 45 mph. It had a charger like a golf cart if I remember right. It was a weird looking thing.

Recently, in the local Pittsburgh News, US Steel has been buying air time announcing its' all electric yard engines. Just a bunch of green propaganda, trying to mitigate local complaints about steel plant emissions. Where's the power come from to charge the batteries?

After maintaining a fleet of electric golf carts I wouldn't own another one and I sure as heck would not even consider an electric car. On paper they make look ok to some but when you figure charging, maintenance, battery replacement, and limited milage they are a no go. They certainly are not the answer to our energy crisis, perceived or real, and may actually contribute more to the crisis considering that electricity costs are going up and many grids can't handle what is already on the system.

I’ve had an EV Toyota for a little under six months. What I have learned is that all cars have limitations, and those vary even among EV cars. However, on the balance, I am very pleased with my electric vehicle. I charge primarily at home, and I don’t do a lot of cross country drives. I would ignore all of the blanket statements about the desirability (+ or -) of electric vehicles. Not every EV will work for every person. But most people can do just fine with an electric vehicle. They quality of electronic and digital equipment in the vehicle, the smoothness of the ride, the amount of clearance, seat comfort, and other matters other than the fact that it is an EV, are more important in determining satisfaction with the car than the nature of the fuel.

"In a public letter to President Biden, 3,882 car dealers spread across the country are asking that his administration slow down its proposed regulations mandating the production and distribution of electric vehicles. "
It’s really great that big businesses are being controlled by the US government, which has never gotten anything right. What’s interesting is how these businesses just kowtow to these elected officials. Someone has to tell them to screw off and take all your alphabet organizations with you.

The Chevy Dealership I bought my 2023 Bolt EUV from now is overstocked with them, with a price of $8000 less than I paid for mine last December. Go figure.

In my 92 mile commute every day, I see very few EV’s.

Jackie,
In your case they make perfect sense. I think they will get better with time.

Makes sense? They’re going to refund him $8,000?
Nothing makes sense starting with the concept.
If I were Jackie I’d be back to the dealer asking what they did and how are they going to correct it?
Check the resale value. Talk about a loss.
To me $8,000 is a lot of money.

The big thing with EV's is the limit of miles that can be driven and the time it takes to recharge them. On a road trip do you have 4+ hours to hang out while it charges? That is of course IF you can find somewhere to plug it in. A bud of mine predicted that in 10 years 30 percent of all cars would be EV, I laughed and asked him where are they going to charge them? Hell our town couldn't handle 100 let alone 1000s.
