You Can't Be Serious.

We run hunter sight-in at my club. Now and then, somebody shows up with the scope mounted 90 deg off. They wonder why the U/D adjustment goes left and right . . . . And of course, the L/R goes up and down. One of them showed up with a Ruger 77 where the rear ring is taller than the front one. As you may have guessed by now, the tall ring was in front and the short one in the rear. The rifle shot really, really low . . . .
Couldve been me with the scope 90 degrees out. All my F class scopes are fitted 90 degrees different to everyone else.

Overheard a conversation in a LGS between counter staff and a salesman talking about killing coyotes at 600 yards with 204 Ruger. I seriously doubt that either of them ever shot anything at 600 yards on paper, let alone killed coyotes.
Long time ago, at a gun store the owner of a M1A that had a scoped mounted on it was claiming the gun could hit a fly at 100 yards.

Many years ago I was hunting with a friend here in Idaho and was introduced to another couple. The wife wore a prosthetic leg which I learned happened from a hunting accident . Before they were married they were hunting with another couple. She was sitting in the passenger side front seat and her future husband was sitting behind her with a loaded gun. Somehow it went off and the bullet passed through the seat and hit her knee. Very sad story.

A couple showed up at the range. He was a silver maned older guy, she was young enough to be his daughter. They drove up in a newish Range Rover and were wearing matching western garb. They pull out a pair of matched Accuracy International "sniper" rifles with Nightforce scopes. Cannot remember the chambering, but the factory ammunition was very expensive. They sat down at 100 yards and were mystified when they couldn't hit paper. Couldn't even spot their shots with their Leica binoculars. When I offered to use a collimator for them, they got really huffy and said that the gunshop owner himself "sighted in" their rifles and blamed the ammunition, the benches and the range itself. When I suggested they get on paper at 25 yards, they informed me that they had the finest long range rifles ever made, so why shoot at 25 years? They wasted a few more rounds and took off back to the gunshop.

Had a in law like that once. Got him a benchrest rifle a guy made for him in Colo. dont remember the caliber. Brought it out gonna show me how to shoot, that wouldnt be hard most days. but I was shooting my old tight necked 6ppc alot back then. He shot a group about half inch my turn shot a .250. Never wanted to shoot again. Thought money could buy anything. Not trying to sound like Im a good shot got lucky. Anybody could shoot a .250 with that rifle with a little practice. Doug

From some tall slough grass, I was calling coyotes across a small frozen lake. There was some movement along the steep embankment on the far side which I thought might be some deer that had been bedded there. Slowly raised my binocs up and saw two deer hunters looking through their scopes right toward where I was tucked in!

That'll get your attention, believe me.

I saw that many many times years ago when no one carried a binocular because they didn't see the need and they were heavy.

About 2 years ago some folks threw some golf balls down range, shot at them, and the richochets went all over the place. They also were shooting into the woods and air and some rounds landed in an adjacent property neighbor playground miles away.

Had a neighbor pepper my storage shed with a shotgun once. Went straight over to his house and told him EXACTLY where that shotgun was going to wind up if that happened again.

Had a 3yo and 5yo in the yard at the time.

He's lucky he's not dead and I'm lucky I'm not in prison.

Mort, I stood up and started waving my arms. The thought crossed my mind that they might be thinking that's the biggest (blank-blank) deer they'd ever seen. On their side, there was only one way in. I walked the 1/4 mile to my truck and drove over to have a chat with them. They had left by the time I got there. As I thought about it more, I put myself in that situation...not good.

Since that day, I've never hunted when deer season is open.
