Electric Cars -- anyone own one?

Been reading up on these and not sure what to believe ? I would rather hear it from an owner. Two sides to every story
We have a KIA EV-6 GT, have owned it for about 8 months, great car, no problems, comfortable and fast. I have a 40 amp charging system in our garage takes about 6 hours to fully charge, Range 300 miles. Have not noticed a spike in our electric bill.

How could any one with a conscious own an electric vehicle. Grids are inadequate now plus the electricity mostly comes from fossil fuels which we all know are just terrible on top of the batteries of which there is not a good way to dispose of and of course all this has caused global warming and probably caused Covid, not bats. My mind just spins with all this. No wonder I can't shoot straight.

Darn Jeff, I have a reasonably clear conscious, and I drive my all electric Chevy Bolt EUV back and forth to work 6 days a week. That is a 92 mile round trip commute.

I kinda hope people continue to avoid Electric Cars. That will keep my cost per Kilowatt Hour down.

I agree with most of the arguments about the negatives. EV’s are great as a commuter car. Dirt cheap to drive, you never stop to “fill er up”, and it drives really well. But it is not for long trips, and you have to monitor exactly how many miles are left on a charge,

All of the other stuff, such as the human cost of mining materials, can be said of any commodity that is in demand. Those nice “sneakers” that we all find so comfortable are made by people in factories that get paid just enough to keep them healthy enough to make more sneakers. That can be said for just about any consumer item that would be cost prohibitive if not for borderline slave labor.

I agree 100% with those that say if everybody bought a EV, the Electric Grid would be severely overtaxed. But untill that day comes, I will drive mine and enjoy the convenience of it.

Glad to see you did well at the Nationals, I was hoping you would win. Just be sure to carry a penny with you at all times, in case that buggy blows a fuse, lol.

Something I think about with this issue, is that a very large percentage of our driving citizens, (myself included) own automobiles that are ten or even twenty years old. I never even think of pulling the trigger on one unless it's already got a hundred thousand miles on it. This habit has allowed me to live without a car payment for most of my life, and consequently retire before I die.

Driving ANY car legally these days, is an expensive proposition when you consider license/registration, insurance, fuel, maintenance, repairs, tires, ---

now tell everyone that they are pretty much gonna have to change to a $60,000 +/- vehicle with even higher insurance costs, unknown fuel costs, and probably a shorter life span. I see trouble ahead. jd

$60K,$70k, $80k for a new car or truck????? Not in this lifetime!! :(
Will avoid the Ins. BS and spend maybe $300 +for a couple of headlights and a new front bumper after I hit that deer yesterday morning. Then, be back to where I was a few days ago. :)

This is the THIRD such ship to catch fire in the last few years, the other two eventually sunk and required extensive salvage operations to remove the toxic waste from the ocean. I am jus a simple-minded carpenter could someone please explain how electric cars are saving our environment? The concept may too complicated for me to understand.

Now I would like to have one as a second car if (big if) I could buy one real cheap. I would not pay the asking price for one now days. Problem I see is this. I live in a small town on the southeast plains of Colorado. Yesterday it was around 101 deg. Last evening we had two brown-outs. The USA is shutting down power plants left and right and not building new ones. Just wind and solar. We are heading for a big problem, and soon!

Yeah, been looking at used cars trucks last few weeks. the prices are out of sight! one of the bad things is these days, individuals don't sell their own vehicles anymore. the middlemen/resellers are charging very high prices and seem to be successful. And to put it in perspective, buy 20 krugerands for about 40K or a super clean used F150. I know this is getting away from elect. vehicles. I did drive a ford fusion, hybrid for a week or so. sits too low for me. very good mileage. would hate to be in a wreck in one.

Heavily insured!! ;);)
I would say, not THAT many people liking the idea.
Park and charge your EV in your attached garage and sleep with one eye open.:oops: And wait for your Auto Ins. bill, as well as the Homeowners policy. Can't hide it, they have ways.
