Cz mtr tight headspace

Is the bolt on my new mtr supposed to be tight to close? I have shot multiple types of ammo in this rifle and all of it is very hard to close. Is it supposed to be this tight either the match chamber or is there a fix for this tight headspace?

First you have to determine what the headspace is, check this forum or google and how to measure headspace. If it’s too tight you can shim the barrel, Lilja or other places sell shims for the CZ.

Are you using El Cheapo ammo If so try some good stuff and see if the bolt close requires less effort. How much engagement from the lands are you getting with an chambered cartridge?

I'm guessing that you're feeling the effect of the match chamber when closing the bolt. The bullet engages the rifling sooner as the bolt moves forward. I just helped a friend get his new CZ 457 MTR set up and this was the case. And, my Anschutz 54.30 is also similar to this. That MTR is a nice rifle, BTW!

This is a brand new rifle from Cz, shouldn’t the headspace been set from them? I will do some more research here and see what I come up with, thsnks

It’s all quality ammo, RWS, SK, Lapua
Gonna do some more checking this afternoon on it, thanks

Headspace should be set but these are mass produced with tolerance stacking. If i remember correctly i measured mine at .0435 ish headspace. Things i have seen on a few peoples at the range. Dry bolt almost bound up and notchy feeling while closing bolt fixed by lubing. Seen one barrel that the extractor notches were not cut right causing hard closures and opening. Maybe check that out. Good luck with your new rifle.

This is my thoughts. A simple test is to chamber a cartridge, do not fire it, now extract the unfired cartridge and take a look at the engraving on the bullet. If the bullet is engraved then the resistance you are feeling is likely from the bullet engaging the lands. If you have resistance chambering a cartridge but they are no engraving marks on an unfired bullet then you may have a headspace, or other, issue.
