Deep penetrating pistol bullets?

I just got back from Maine. Cant wait to shoot my new Dan Wesson Bruin 10mm I picked up last week!

If you are close enough to "finish" it, the .40 is fine. I'd carry the lightest pistol that will do the job. I used to tote one along (and I don't hunt in big bear country much - if ever anymore), but now I usually go light and use my rifle if a finishing shot is needed. Saves packing a lot of extra weight. When I did hunt in bear country, I loaded 300-grain lead in my .44 Mag. If I do carry a sidearm these days - it is a ported S&W .357 revolver. Light is nice as one ages.

Thanks for all the replies guys. I have my pistol and all the components to load for it, Longshot and AA 9, Winchester primers, Starline brass and 200gr Montana hard cast bullets. After I finish the batch of 22-250 that's sitting on the bench, I'll start working on a load for the 10.

If I want real penetration, the kind that can stop the biggest preditors that walk the earth, and have an interest in killing or eating me,,,, I'll take this everytime!

And without hesitation I'll use a WFLN EVERYTIME in hard cast, if you want a better bullet than that for penetration, with stopping power,,,,, you'll have to use monolithic full meatal projectiles, but trust, with the 475 you do not need them!

Semi autos are to prone to failures when your risking being eaten,,, I carry a 45 acp to supper, a revolver when real threats are present!

I guess I'm an outlier as I prefer a heavy for caliber LFN style usually with a GC. I don't have as many molds as some but probably have 12 MP LFN style molds and a few more than that Accurate Molds, again in LFN style. It's a balance to keep from having too long of a nose though. They all shoot good and while I've yet to use any on critters, I don't doubt they'll penatrate deep.

I don't go much harder than WW and will typically powder coat.

I also shoot the heavy Hornady XTP's. These are for revolvers (Freedom Arms and custom Blackhawk's) so this may not be what you were referring to.
