Today, I put a 1/4” bit in the router, set up the guides and stops and cut the recoil lug slot. I made the trigger cut with a long 1/2” bit, then bedded the action and pillars.View attachment 1408910View attachment 1408911View attachment 1408912
Hi Josh, looks like another great project. Do you seal the raw wood on the blank before bedding? I was wondering if you want to keep the porous wood grain from making the cure of the epoxy uneven? Also to keep the squeeze out from staining the exposed wood.Today, I put a 1/4” bit in the router, set up the guides and stops and cut the recoil lug slot. No. I want the epoxy to grab. Look at the bedding pic. I used the blue painters tape to protect the wood from the black colored epoxy. I got a little creep at the edge. I should have used Tyvec tape because it resists better. It was 20 feet away and the painter’s was on the bench. I wasn’t too worried tho, as this stock will have a “Bc’z Black” stain, mentioned in earlier threads.Hi Josh, looks like another great project. Do you seal the raw wood on the blank before bedding? hi josh—. i have been thinking about how to cut the angled barrel inlet on a mill. dont want to turn the vise if i can help it. you move your bars so the router follows them and cuts the angle correct?? I guess in mill i can shim the vise. i wonder about the taper at chamber though. ill go back and read it again.No. I want the epoxy to grab. Look at the bedding pic. Hey Kim! I haven’t worked on a mill. I can “see” that you would have to rotate or angle the vice holding your stock. To me and my method, it’s like driving on the wrong side of the road.hi josh—. i have been thinking about how to cut the angled barrel inlet on a mill. dont want to turn the vise if i can help it. you move your bars so the router follows them and cuts the angle correct?? Now now. I was alluding to your idea of black. Not so sure I want to have you do it. You’ll turn it into some Museum piece I’ll have to worry about dinging up.Oh hellz yeah!!
Let's do it!
