Reloading Room Ideas

I'm on Mark VI of my reloading area over a 25 year period, and I'm at the point now where it is optimal for what I do.

My advice is to avoid permanent fixtures to wall and floor initially. You will make changes to whatever you put in place now, and it may take time to optimise.
Exactly my point , don’t lean to far in front of your skies .

My current reloading "area' compared to my gun room :-( It's changed some in the 4 years since Its been done but basically the same as below . I added a small 5 drawer cabinet to the left of chair under bench for dies and small tools and a couple other changes .

Is that a bald face hornets nest above the window? How’d did you ensure it was empty?

Ha, another story to that. Good eye. Hornets were no problem. That's the biggest nest I've ever found. It was probably 30' up in a black locust tree, the one with the thorns. It was at least 20 below and the friggin wind was blowing 25mph. By the time I got back on the ground I was about froze. Took it home and it stunk bad, just like they all do, but no hornets. Just a normal deal for me. Anyone that knows me understands that I'm stubborn, not too smart, and never give up. That's how I reached 75....

It’s got nothing to do with being finished but I do something I don’t often see. I have a work bench - maybe 3x6 sitting int the middle of the room. I have multiple presses, vises, etc mounted all around the perimeter. You have 18 feet of edge space to work with. That way I’m not all cramped and staring at a wall while I work. I hang some bright led lights over the center of the bench and it works really well.

Tylerw02 a lot of nice loading rooms and ideas, one problem I have is a bench that is too Low. My bench is 43-1/2" high I can stand or sit with a high bar stool I prefer to stand and move. No need for raising presses.
Nothing wrong with a lower section as needed. CSL grandpa
That was something I took into consideration with my current bench and built it bar-height. I will likely do that again. Thanks for the reminder!

I disagree with the objective of a combination trophy room - reloading room - study; "trophy room - study" yes, but not reloading. I would encourage you to think about an oversized garage front to back, with the back walled off for a "gun room". A gun room, includes reloading, storage, cleaning & maintenance and repair etc. You are not going to have cleaning and repair in your "study - trophy room" so you'll need another place for it so why not all inclusive to start???

I have the aforementioned setup. Everything in one place, concrete floor with rubber mats placed appropriately, two benches (one for reloading and one for cleaning, maintenance, repair etc.). No issues in garage with smell, spills etc. The most important things to think about right now are not cabinets etc, but wiring, lights and plumbing (shop sink and small countertop - wish I had one...).
I’m planning to have work benches in my garage as well. I planned to have a place for annealing, lead furnace, and bullet swaging. I also do a little bit of kydex work for holsters and knife sheaths. Right now I have everything in an unfinished room in my basement. Makes me nervous annealing inside my reloading room, though I do take precautions.

I also have a bench in the garage where I do any annealing as well as a lot of my gun cleaning and decapping if it’s not too cold. Being in the basement, my loading room traps smells pretty bad. If I would have finished the basement myself, I would have rigged up some ventilation.

I reload in my basement. Really the only thing I have done different from the picture is my rifle cradle is mounted on a lazy Susan and mounted to the bench. It handy to spin the rifle or turn it toward the door for bore sighting. Cant have enough space!

That’s really a great idea. I have a poly topped leather workin-cutting bench like that in the middle of a room, it is so handy to circle that bench to get what your after.
