Reloading room floor

So we had two old dogs, that pretty much destroyed my Finished basement floor, which is vinyl plank flooring. I have my reloading room in the basement. I also have a desk/work area. Entertainment center.

I would really like carpet in the basement. Any downsides to this idea? I’m worried about it throwing off my scale with static electricity. Any other down sides?

Edit: I’m talking functionally. I don’t mean to sound like a numb skull but I’m not worried about vacuuming up a primer or a little powder.
You ever get a live primer stuck in the tracks of you tennis shoes on a concrete floor, and goes off !

Drop a little 21 Centry moly in the carpet and you'll see why it's best to not have it so close to your reloading bench. I'm not sure how a small amount of moly powder ended up on the tan carpet, but it isn't easily removed and looks terrible. I'd add that using a standard (wheeled) office chair in the same spot for hours on end didn't help the carpet. If you use a chair on the carpet, a protective panel is a needed.

I'm pretty clumsy at times and dropping things, dies rolling off my bench, brass rolling off or dropping them, spilling unknown quantities of powder and spilling liquid things. I can't imagine not having a rubber mat in front of my bench. I'd never put in carpet. I'd be replacing it semi-annually. I once also had that "luxury" vinyl flooring in a few rooms. Was supposed to be waterproof and such. sounded great. Then water got under it. The mold started coming up from in between the cracks in the flooring. I'd never install it unless on a wooden subfloor with sealed edges. If you have concrete, the epoxy floor with a rubber mat in front of the bench would be good. If you disassemble firearms at your bench and have a small dog or spring fall into the carpet, it better be very short knap carpet or you may never find it.

But, why do all the small pieces roll under the bench? Why, I say why, don't some roll away from the bench?

Yeah! Fortunately, my bench has a lot of drawers and comes all the way down to the floor. If something would get under it - it would probably be there till they tore my house down. Ha!

I’ve reloaded all but 5-6 of the last 28yrs with my own kit on carpeted floors, and the kit I used as a kid was on carpeted floors also. I moved into a new - temporary - house about 18mos ago and I’m reloading on concrete, and I absolutely hate it. I do use ergo-mats in front of my bench, and underneath when applicable, and I did the same on carpet. We’re planning a house as soon as the builder can get started in 2024, and my reloading room will have epoxy flooring there, with area rugs and runners as the ergo mats - but rather because they’ll be dedicated areas within the vault section of the basement.

Humidity control makes sense in almost every part of a home, regardless of reloading gear. So static control is pretty straight forward for me.

My room is in the basement with a concrete floor. A commercial grade Berber style carpet and pad designed to go over concrete lets it breathe. On one side there's a small lathe. An anti fatigue mat keeps the metal swarf from getting embedded in the carpet. Make sure there's a fire extinguisher in there.

I used carpeting for years and never had any problems. I did, however, clean it regularly. Now, I'm using some of the interlocking, hard(?) foam, squares from Harbor Freight. They are rather inexpensive and easy on the legs of an old man.

2 x 2 carpet squares. Use the correct glue and you can pull them up and replace if one gets stained.
Short tight nap. Buy extra box or two.
