Beam scale

Seems like awhile back, they were talking about 10 10's on Ebay that were Chianee knock-offs. Is that a thing??
The new Chinese ones that I saw, were painted silver. I don’t know if it was determined to be a knock off claiming to be Ohaus, or if they are actually being produced for Ohaus.

I sent Scott Parker my Ohaus in November 2022. Good transaction.

I reached out to him via pm here, asking if he’d be interested in tuning my scale. I included my mobile in case he wanted to talk. He called me on my mobile a few hours after sending that message. We spoke about the scale, what he does to them, and then just shot the shit about air rifles for a bit. I sent my scale to the address he provided with a check for the amount he quoted.

I had the scale back before the check was ever cashed. He included a check weight of 89.6gr too. Check was cashed about a week or two after I received the scale.

He communicated with me before, and during the process. My experience with him was actually better than I’d expected.

This was my experience. I can’t say anything negative about the experience or Scott Parker.

I’m glad that you had such a good experience. It’s definitely in contrast to the frustration that I experienced with two weeks turning into almost a year and having to go buy another scale just to be able to load while waiting. In the end I did receive a great scale that I would never consider selling, but I’m not sure the frustration was worthwhile.

I did see that Scott posted about turning a new leaf with his business practices and it sounds like he is trying to do so. I hope that he is successful because he certainly offers a fine service and I doubt he’s making a killing from what he charges.

I have to post here as I just got 2 scales back from Scott . A Redding #1 with hydraulic dampening and A M5 . his turnaround for 2 scales was not bad at all . 3 weeks or so I think it was . The scales are great . I have tested them and they are sensitive to one kernal and with test weights spot on .

When someone owns up to shortcomings they earn a small amount of credibility and grace period to prove they have been redeemed. I think Scott is making the most of his forbearance.

Recently posted a wanted add for a quality beam scale. That post may have been a bit premature. I quickly had multiple offers to sell rcbs 1010 scales which based on my research are solid scales. However, some folks reccomended the lyman m5 which i do think i prefer over the 1010 barrel adjust option. However the poo brown color gets me... would much rather have the ohaus version or if rcbs ever had one modeled after that scale. I have a cosmetic hangup kreping me from going with the lyman. Would i be better off with a parker tuned 1010 over a layman m5?
A tuned M5/10-05 is the cat’s meow.

When I was shopping for a scale a few years ago, many of the stores were stocking the RCBS 1010. I looked on the bottom of the box and every one of them said Made in China. I have read some of Scott Parkers posts indicating that many Chinese scales cannot be trued.

At check weight value on the left and zero on the right. This scale had both magnetic issues that caused it to behave as if it were demon possessed and linearity issues as well. All cured. I’d happily use this scale any day!

Now that is a good experience !!!

Another tuned Redding#1, hydraulic dampened scale. At zero in the left pic, at check weight value in the right. I love these scales!!! All the sensitivity and repeatability you need in a settling time of 4 seconds.

Scott, I didn't make it to the post office for a shipping box today.
Both of my 10-10's will be in the mail this week along with funds for services.

I have an Ohaus 505 that I bought new in 1971, IIRC... it's still going strong. I "tune" it each time I use it by blowing the dust off the pivot points. I finally got around to buying some check weights a few months back, and the scale is dead on.... to less than a half tenth.
I think, amortized out, that is around 1/10 of a penny per day to operate.

K.I.S.S. ;):D

I have two, just incase one goes sour. Love these.

I thought about going digital, but saw too many "issues" with odd readings, fluorescent lighting causing sun spots, or some such....
My biggest issue with a digital scale was the inability (at least according to reviews) to trickle a few kernels/flakes in to bring it up the last few tenths of a grain.

I suppose an automatic dispenser/trickler/scale would eliminate that, but then you still have the possibility of electrical interference, from whatever source. It might not be an issue, but I saw enough reports of it to be concerning to me.
