F class sighters

So you get unlimited sighters on every match..??Do you think the scores would be lower and less cleans at 1000yds with only 2 sighters..??

Yes I get that you are limited too time..
Maybe new shooters too the sport has unlimited sighters..
As you improve and move up a class then you have limited siters and when your in the high master class 2 sighters..!!
Just a thought ;)

In F-Class matches where "unlimited" sighters are allowed, no one is forced to take more than two. It's up to the shooter to take however many sighters they wish while leaving themselves sufficient time to finish their record string.

A common F-Class sighter format is "unlimited/two/two". This addresses barrel fouling and sight-in during the first match of the day, with only two sighters in the subsequent matches. Regardless, as long as the sighter format is listed in the Match Bulletin and applies equally to everyone, it should be neither an advantage or disadvantage. If the first match of the day is limited to two sighters, those that deem it necessary may wish to foul the barrel prior to the start of the match.

Why do people want marksmanship to be easier?
You don’t have to be in sighters, to learn. Preparation is the hallmark of winners, in any competitive endeavor.
It’s pretty obvious from the proliferation of e-targets that there are a hella lot more participants than competitors. If you lose the participants there won’t be enough for a match.

I'm personally in favor of a 2 or 3 minute blow-off that doesn't strike targets before the first target of the day, followed by 2 sighters.

The idea is to foul in the barrel after it was cleaned.

I've seen far too many shooters using unlimited sighters to timidly test the waters to see if they want to jump in, or tune their rifles (I've even seen one character on the line with a seating die).

I think we're drifting away from the basics of the game with unlimited sighters - marksmanship and wind reading.

Probably the character on the line with the seating die was an old guy who got confused and thought he was at a Bench Rest match. (I swear it wasn't me....)

AMEN BROTHER. Please add "or any sighters". Nowhere in the rules does it mention that sighters are MANDATORY. As F-Class competitors, we have a variety of competition courses-of-fire that have their unique allotment of "sighters". Simple, if you don't think sighting shots are appropriate, don't take them...declare going for record first shot! The closest it gets to having mandatory sighters is when engaged in full bore competitions specifying convertible sighters...the first two shots are sighting shots no matter what. I guess the "no sighter" folks could declare ahead of time they are accepting their sighters!!

All this discussion on sighters by some on the forum caused me to cringe in that you might make it onto the new F-Class board:mad:.

I’m not opposed to sighters. I think unlimited sighters are a bit silly, but not as silly as say, being able to go back to sighters mid string. I just don’t understand why people look at a set of rules, and then want to modify them to make it easier to shoot higher scores. Hard things are more fun, and make better competition, than easier things.

Are there too many 600 60X+ scores at your range?
I would suggest that the current rules allow for a highly competitive landscape without needlessly handicapping people in the process.
If you don't need more, or any sighting shots, don't take them. It's only the record shots that count anyway, and the wind does not always stay static.
Could be all those extra sighting shots did was make you fall out of the condition in the end.

Can't say for sure? Under pristine conditions, and for follow-on matches of the day, I've shot only one sighter (to wake up the target pullers) and then done pretty well.

Danny,

I think we can all agree that you are an exception rather than the rule for F-class shooters. Many of us wish we had half of your skill!

Come to a range with fast builds and let off’s along with switches and you’ll probably find it more than challenging enough with unlimited sighters, lol.
