Southern Cold snap living in a camper

Way below freezing. I'm not sure what town he's in but it's not that far away. Those may well be forecasted high temps, as they're calling for a few nights in the low single digits here with highs around 12° on Friday and a low of 1° above and breezy, so wind chills will be pretty rough.

Straw bales around the outside are pretty good insulation but will draw mice in time.

I saw the wind advisory, I think it’s gonna be a weekend to be inside and burn propane around our places. To cold to shoot for sure!

I'd take 100° any day over 0°. Just don't like bitter cold much. Living on and growing up on a farm, zero temps just cause too many worries..and my feet get cold too. Lol!

Yea I’m expecting to end up on the family farm helping my brother with one of the wells or something before the weekend is over.

I'm gonna get heat lamps and propane heaters ready along with a tractor and pto generator ready and hope I don't need it. I can stay warm in the shop and in the old house but if the electricity goes off, the water will freeze up at the well and possibly the house. Thankfully, no more cattle at the moment, though. I'd like to be a Florida snowbird but I just can't leave in the winter. I plan to build sometime soon too. Waiting for contractors to start looking for work. They've had it good for a few years but I think that's gonna come to a halt soon. I'll probably have to finance some of it but trying to pay as much out of pocket as I can stand. I've thought hard about what you're doing, living in a camper while I build as I'd like to build where my house sits now. But I'd like to be able to do as much as I can myself, which means I'll be in a camper longer than I want to be. Your post isn't very encouraging in that regard. I'm still deciding which way to go. Might buy a used trailer but that has some of the same issues, just not as bad. Might build in a different spot too.

We do cold weather well here in Montana. The consequences of being wrong and rupturing your plumbing system could get expensive. If I were in your position, I would winterize it for the duration of the cold weather and then go back to normal operations. You'll kick yourself if your precautions don't work and it freezes and blows up. Bad things happen at 3 degrees and that much time below freezing.
Edit to ad: You could hook on to it and tow it up here for a visit. It's only supposed to get to -25 here Wednesday night. It's wolf hunting weather at its best.

I have a heated and cooled storage building (14x32) on my property so I store what we don’t use a lot in there. Like you I’m waiting on lumber to drop , it’s slowly moving downwards it seems.

Merry Christmas to yall as well. I may just give in and winterize it for the weekend. It’s not hard to winterize and like has been said, a lot easier to winterize than repair......

We are doing the same thing you’re doing but every time lumber goes down interest rates go up. We have been camping for 3 years now.

Luckily we got offered a stupid amount for our house when things were selling fast and I can do most of the building since I grew up with a brother that built for 20 years so “hopefully” we won’t borrow much if any. We are not stressed in the camper at all but I am ready to start building.

leave a small stream running and a couple heat lamps under the trailer you should be fine, the pole barn will soak up the wind so heat lamps will keep the area warm enough

Was on a pipeline project in Northern Wyoming one year. When temps were at 10 below, I said "To hell with this!" and got a Hotel room. My 5th wheel RV was a 4 seasons but could not keep it warm.

Some of my coldest nights were in my montana 5th wheel in houston, specifically january 2017. I drove in ice leaving arkansas and my gas and electric heaters took a day to catch up
