Axis II, I have read both of Your threads. I was once where You are, but started with Stevens 200, which was then the Savage entry rifle before the Edge/Axis. I have made and acted on many of the questions/decisions You ask about. You already have an entry level rifle, and You have been gifted a “used” barrel. So far, no additional money spent. But You need to load for Your 6BR, and this git’s to be costly. Maybe not so much for banging steel, or varmint hunting, but Bench Rest shooting gets expensive. Components are needed, and right now, we can’t just get what we want when we want it. When shooting at steel or varmints, a miss is not such a big deal. Bad groups and scores at a match increases anxiety level. So I have to ask, how many rounds are on Your “gifted barrel” ? Does it have enough competition worthy accuracy left to justify spending more money on it than the original investment ? Steel, Varmints, and BR, can all be done with the same rifle, and I recommend single load. PRS is a totally different discipline, and requires it’s own rifle, IMO.
In an effort to save You some money, just because Your barrel is threaded, doesn’t mean Your 6mmBR needs a break. And I agree with “froggy“, a Boyd’s stock is the most I would want to invest in that rifle.
To be competitive at BR, You “have to have” a good scope. That is money that must be spent, IMO.
IF You haven’t already, I recommend attending a Bench Rest, and /or a PRS match and see if You would be comfortable showing up with an Axis. Don’t get Me wrong about Savages, if You attend a match that has a Factory Class, You may see guys Shooting Savage Factory Target rifles, with $2,500 scopes, are avid reloaders, and challenge the groups and scores of the Light and Heavy guns.
To Me Savages are rifles for do it your selfers, mechanics enough, to do all the work on them, them selves. Savage shooters are guys that usually have a ‘67 Volkswagen Bug around somewhere

.
Gotta finish this up. For reloading, Redding Body Die, to size and shoulder bump. Have LEE make You a Collet Neck Sizing Die, the seating die comes with it. It’s You money, You can move up as You feel it is justified.
Hope this helps, from a guy who has been where You are, and pretty much still is
