Lapua Production Suspension

Lucky that the five calibers I reload are not on the list. I'm stocked up nicely on brass right now anyway ... having accumulated what I needed over the past couple of years, with enough either lightly fired or new in the box to last me for several more years. Remember ... it's not "hoarding" if you "really want it". :D

6.5-284, 284 and 308 small primer. F class shooters going to have to get creative.

I would guess their cartridge drawing machinery is segregated into classes roughly by the size of the head or maybe overall length, and our match cases coincide with defense production equipment.

My thoughts are

1) saying no price increase “at this time” is a polite way of saying get ready for a price increase,

2) all the other brass makers already sell their output quickly, so a further constriction in supply will likely mean higher prices and longer waits;

3) That an announcement like cancelling all orders and indefinite cessation is being made in the first place means this is not going to end soon;

4) In F-Class we should buy what components are not in a pinch; when powders and bullets were so restricted, brass really wasn’t, and it was prudent to pivot to stocking up on it for the future, generally not everything is unavailable at the same time;

5) Don’t neglect our custom barrel makers, these guys are a cottage industry and general frustration with components and low round counts shot will have a 1-2 year away big, delayed impact on their orders.

I don't think it's just Ukraine. I think a lot of "border" countries are buying and that would add up to a lot of ammo.

Finland has a 1,340 km long land border with Russia and relations have been at times poor ever since Finland seceded from the Russian empire in 1917 (followed by a civil war between 'White Finns' and 'Red Finns'). After all, Soviet Russia invaded the country almost in living memory in the 1939/40 'Winter War'.

This is why Finland maintained a very large well-equipped and trained civil militia until recently (running it down another so-called 'peace dividend bonus').

As Vladimir Putin claims that any country once part of the Russian empire will be returned there if necessary by force, I'd think I'd be more than a tad nervous if I were a Finn right now. If Ukraine falls, the Baltic states and Finland are next in the queue for their own versions of a 'Special Military Operation'. If Lapua is diverting production to their national military cartridges (primarily 7.62X39mm and 7.62X53R), then I'd say both good for them - and highly prudent.

Buy American. If we’ve learned anything in the last couple years, it’s that we don’t make anything, we consume, import everything. Well I say we learned……… doubt it.

We can’t even get ford pickups. I bet that a brass shortage from Finland will be the least of our concerns before long. Diesel is $5.60 here. Interest rates going from 2.5 to 7 percent in the last 6 months.

How much lead and copper is mined here? How much powder is made here?

I’ll quit ranting there, gotta get back to learning up on gender pronouns and battery cars.

Please point me to where Putin said that, because that sounds like a pile of propaganda bull to me.

I guarantee you he NEVER said that.

The propaganda around the Ukraine conflict is off the charts. The lies are so thick that basically there is almost no truth. Ukraine makes post 911 Iraq seem like an open book. People still believe to this day that Saddam Hussein was involved in knocking down the World Trade Center.

The BBC is the worst. Maybe worse than US media sources. The propaganda being shoveled by British Intelligence is off the charts.

I can say that we Finns are not nervous, we are just cautious with our old enemy. And that is just sure that we are not afraid of russia.

To better serve Lapua’s civilian and military obligations, Lapua is suspending production on a selection of cases. It is Lapua’s intention to resume production of these calibers as soon as market conditions stabilize.

Lapua is taking necessary steps at their production sites to improve production capabilities, so that Lapua can serve you at normal levels as soon as possible.

Good for you! I still think I'd feel nervous with a large country led by an obsessive acquisitive psychopathic maniac who reshapes history to suit his fantasies next door though!

Mind you, by the time Ukraine is finished with his army, he might not have anything much left in the T6X / T7X / T8X series of AFVs left and with the Russian Army competence (or lack of it) and maintenance / reliability levels (low!) apparent in Ukraine, a Russian invading force would likely get lost in your forests and lakes, and then break down and abandon its vehicles before fighting you.

And rightfully so. it looks as if Russia has it's hands full with the Ukraine, and is begging for military aid from anyone who will help. I would be guessing but it would not seem too smart to start something else when they can't finish what they have started with the Ukraine.

You are right, Ukraine plains are still easy place for russian army compared to our forests ;) And not forgetting our second strongest western european artillery with over 1500 artillery weapons and 280000 men and women strong army which has 900000 men and women strong trained reserve.
