I'm that last person you'd want guessing about volumetric stuff... Whatever it is it's plenty adequate to clear all of the chips.

I only sometimes use pilots on my reamers... If I'm really happy with the way the barrel dialed in I'll just pre-bore and send it. Unless it's 5R... Then I'll pre-bore up to the lands and use a pilot to help keep things from chattering.

Slowly gathering proper hydraulic hoses, especially the one for the rotary -> barrel connection.


The valve that's front and center is a bypass and used to control flow to the barrel.

After hitting YouTube when the video is loading I was able to see the video.

That is nowhere near enough flow to truly make a mess.

Think I'll use the pump you used for my home system. The cutting oil you are using looks a lot like the one we use in the shop. Is is also low odor?
 
Yeah. Low odor. No sulfur so it doesn’t have that strong smell most cutting oils have.

I like the footswitch. I may have to update mine with one :) That flow does not look right. You have it regulated with something? Something don't look right especially with a carbonator pump. Looks like what my 1/3 hp sump looks like.

I agree. It should be shooting down the reamer flutes and deflecting off the base of the reamer holder.
 
Oil in the reservoir looks like an emulsion or it's aerated. Is your pump cavitating? Having pump intake above reservoir and a suction filter makes it hard to prime and keep it that way.

Yes. The output of the pump goes two places.

* back to the tank through a ball valve
* to the barrel

The tank return lets me reduce flow/pressure to the barrel. Without that the oil coming out of the barrel would blast the tailstock off the lathe :)

I think part of what Aaron is doing, and what I am planning, is a lower pressure system for home shop use. It will mean pulling the reamer out ever .050 to .100 when chambering, but it is still many magnitudes faster than having to clean the chips off the reamer and out of the chamber with brushes and squirt bottles.

I have the system I use at work running way under capacity because it makes a big mess when I turn it up. I run the work system at just a little more flow than Aaron shows in his video.

I suppose the ideal solution would be a robust oil splash containment system that allows running the flush at 120 PSI and full flow. That would be the fastest way to chamber. However, I'll never do it that way. To me, taking the time to check the chamber with a borescope a couple times while chambering leads to better results. Just like fussing with the Interapid and direct reading to dial in the bore ensures a better chamber.

Exactly. I haven't even really used it or played with it... but the 10 second test I posted earlier, removed all chips... so.. it's working for me.
