DIY stock modification/paint/finishing picture thread

I looked back about 12 to 15 pages and I couldn’t find anything so I figured I would start this thread so that we can share information on how we may modify or paint our stocks. I’ve gone the cerakote route which is great but I find myself always changing things enough that I can take a rattle can and paint a stock in less than an hour. I would love to see some of you guys work along with maybe a couple short tips on how you did the application.

I’ll start with this picture. I’m absolutely in love with my almost 6 year old. She helps me in my gun room a few times a week. I finally turned her loose to paint her own stock. She picked out all the colors. She held the back of the can while I sprayed the basecoat of the light green color. I sprayed each color as she asked for it on cardboard and let her blot it with a sponge and then onto the stock. She picked out what color and where it went. She actually used bubble wrap to apply the white dots. I taped the bubble wrap around a small block of wood to make it easier for her to grip. Honestly it turned out better than a few that I have done. She was awfully proud of it717CEBA9-50F8-4C0A-9BA5-F6B1A7DA134D.jpeg7A303A10-D252-4060-A4EB-6FB878386B3F.jpeg5DE2686F-9E65-43FD-A307-EFEDD3FCC843.jpeg

No one has pictures??

Here’s another one I did a few years ago in a gap style camo. I cut out my own patterns by overlapping blue tape on an old cutting board, drawing the shapes I wanted with a sharpie, and then cutting them out with a razor knife. I painted the whole stock black, then laid the home made stencils where I wanted them, then sprayed the whole stock khaki, and laid down more stencils, then I sprayed the whole stock OD green, and then removed the stencils.C2730824-FCE7-40E5-B96E-FEDE9D20E788.jpeg9A540007-FB60-400B-87D5-F6D2A5EF83AE.jpeg

Very good job!!

My attempt at burst paint job like a Les Paul guitar……the faded edges will be the first hard part…..

I put down some black and brown and then sanded it off to help the lines pop more, using angelus leather dyes so far, have some other dyes en route that are supposed to be gibson era correct.....
