Post your most USELESS piece of reloading equipment….

Run out gauge. If I had only spent that money on bullets, brass I would not have spent it on antacids
I'm very happy for my "concentricity" gauge, it was very helpful in finding an issue that once resolved this gauge has no longer been used. Now i try to force myself to use it about once a year to see ify process has changed. Maybe we should offer these on a rental program?

More specifically the PTG hex-nut for ogive measurement.
It was the worst machined piece of garbage I ever owned and I am sure still taking up space in a landfill.
This I don’t understand. Are you saying the holes on the nut changed sizes? Or are you saying you got different measurements for the same bullet or cartridge? Your measurement would be relative but would be repeatable so after doing a seating depth test with multiple depths the depth you choose should be repeatable or the bullet ogive length should be repeatable. The only other option is the bullets are not consistent. Where are you getting .020” difference? Are the holes out of round? Now that would be a problem.

Pat at PTG Doesn’t make sloppy equipment!… I’ve never seen a need for the nut but I would think his holes were round

That would be my assumption. Everything I have bought from PTG has been impeccably machined.

the problem with the nut is every time you take a measurement you push the bullet a little farther into the hole. it in effect changes the dia of bullet at that spot a little or the amount of pressure you put on the case is not exactly the same so it doesnt measure the same. this is why they dont give really consistent results. some may say this is BS but ive seen it.

I thought it would be fun if everyone posted their most USELESS piece of reloading equipment. Since I started this fiasco that I’m sure will both entertain and frustrate some users, I should be the first to post my pics. Furthermore, since I’d really struggle to share just one item, I feel compelled to share my two most USELESS items.

the seating depth tool you showed would definately be one of mine. Also the Lee progressive press when they first came out anyway. I had one I never could get to work and finally threw it away. But Just about any manual case trimmer except wilson and the Lee ones with the rod, I never could get to give me consistent case measurements.

just for fun I loaded up my pet round with lee hand die setup for my 30-06. Bullets were all over the paperView attachment 1344401View attachment 1344401
I bought one while in the Army to load for my T/C Contender chambered in 35 Rem. It did take a level of trial and error how to use it to produce accurate ammo. Final results were consistent 1” groups at 100 yards. I did use a grain scale and trickler.

I just remember that I used a arbor press at friend’s Dad had in his garage for pressing out and in bearings. If a mallet was used like Lee recommended the result was a crooked cartridge case neck.

When I was working at the fire house a couple of us used these to load handgun ammo.

We would sit at the kitchen table and load a couple hundred a night, used to drive the officer in charge crazy, he would go hide in his room. Now I'm the only one left, rest their souls, and I'm still loading and shooting.
I am almost tempted to buy these just for nostalgy sake, but I have enough junk on the bench.

Try the WFT. I use them and they work great

Empty gunpowder containers are used for spent primers and scrap cartridge cases. Empty primer trays are used as targets to shoot at.
I think the garbage can is a better place for spent primers and, primer trays for targets?? We need to get you some better targets

I found mine invaluable when I "had to" reload range brass. I still use it off and on because I still have some LC NATO brass that has never been reloaded.
I have the RCBS version and it is totally useless. After swaging a 100 military 308 cases I found need to go back and use a cutter on 60-70% of them. I stopped trying to swage and just cut the crimp out.
