Labradar

Nothing more frustrating than spending time and components in load development to find that your expensive orange box fails to pickup shots. I have had all types of chronographs. First one was a PACT. The most reliable is a Oehler 35P. The little extra time for set up is worth it. But I am not using it every weekend either. The paper print out gets taped in my load book.

If your on the fence about the LR. Get it and pick up a microphone switch as well. You won’t miss shots that way. Most problems are operator error. We use them heavily with load development prior to sending things out to NTS for lab analysis.

Comparing them to more expensive Infinition equipment they are surprisingly accurate.

+1 here for using the LR w/ the external trigger plugged in and an external batter pack. Mine has never had batteries inside it.
The 2-pack below from Amzn ran me $25, I believe. Four range trips of a couple hours each and one battery is only down to about 50%. (these have a digital charge indicator readout, which is handy). I am going to order one of the rotating magnetic cables after reading through this thread today - to lessen the chance of my usb port getting loose eventually...

Microphone switch? Like the LR airgun trigger?

I'd go with a recoil switch (I have a JKL that I'm quite pleased with); they don't trigger on noise so you won't get a bunch of missed shots when the guy next to you does a mag dump.

The solution is fairly simple and not expensive at all. Instead of plugging into the USB port and unplugging all the time I use a magnetic connector permanently attached to the micro USB port on the LR and a mating cable for the external battery.

I have a set of those cables. Somewhere, anyway. Thinking back, I may have bought them specifically for the LR and never used them there.

I’ve had a Labradar on order with Brownells for a few months now. Today an email from them tells me that part has been discontinued.

Can someone fill me in on the real story please? Is it just component shortages affecting this, or something else?

Just went to the LR web Site, out of stock, no back order at this time. No mention of discontinued. All other items in stock and ready to ship. Believe it may be discontinued by Brownells only.

Mike

I had mine prepaid direct for 14 weeks. Mine arrived on Saturday. They said they had a truckload arrive about 10 min before I called them They shipped next day.

I love mine. I have both external triggers - JKL & Piet. The JKL works well on CF. The Piet works well on RF.

RF takes a lot of trial and error. Sitting here thinking of my .22 LR experience I wish I had made some notes. It has been a long winter and I probably will have to experiment to get the RF to work again.

I couldn't get my Piet to work with RF at first but now that it is secured correctly it seems to work. Still doesn't pick up one here or there. Do you find the way the plastic square is oriented in relation to the bore to matter?

Yes, I believe orientation is important. My best is with the major axis (in line with cord) 90 degrees to the bore. I just stick it to the barrel (magnet).

Everything is hard to get these days. Try to get some primers or powder. You know what I mean?

The parent company that sources the chips is Infinition. It’s 100% a sourcing issue. Confirmed.

There are a few LR’s around if your keen and willing to spend a little time poking around. I stopped sourcing them for people, but was able to procure a bulk of 10 about a month ago.

I know Accuracy 1st had some around when we talked about 60 days ago. They may be gone, but my advice is start with the vendor list that can be accessed on their site. Especially if you want to avoid the huge markups people are asking for them right now. Supply & Demand….

Sorry, just saw this post.

I have not experimented with the external trigger enough to tell exactly how it works. I will say the JKL is sensitive enough that it will trigger from attaching the magnet to the trigger show though; that force would be 90 degrees to either the cross- or length-wise recoil impulse which you would get from "normal" mounting. No idea if the Piet is the same.

Edit to add: A post on Calguns forum stated that BrunoShooter was slated to get something like 20 LabRadar units in within the last couple of days. If you're still looking for one, might want to call them. The poster had ordered 2 units, and said they were on their way to shipping.
