Lets see those hunting rifles

This rifle was one my Dad diligently went after trying to get the owner to trade it in when Dad owned the West Laramie Fly Store. He was successful and he used it for antelope and now I use it for antelope and have carried it for deer. Its a Winchester prewar model 70 Supergrade in 257 roberts that he had one of his gunsmiths restock. I hardly ever shot it and one day I did and it pops out a 5 round group that you could cover with a dime. I got both these antelope with it and the one this year, in the truck, is going on my wall.IMG_3827.JPGIMG_1082.JPG

Here are a couple shots of my Sharps Borchardt that was worked over by a gunsmith some time in a past life. It has a Winchester barrel and is chambered in 25-35WCF. The stock is heavily carved and has an Ivory grip cap and a horn fore end tip. It shoots pretty well, but I don't push the loads in it at all.

I had one more picture to post but had to go to a second reply.
Left to right
No.3 .223 when pic was taken now .22/38-55
No.1 My first .219Dw PDK, Shilen #7 14" twist, set trigger, 8-32x40 Bushnell 4200
No.3 .219 DW PDK
No.3 .204 Wasp scope is 6-24x44 Sightron Big Sky. Finish on action is French Gray by EABCO.
No.1 .204 Wasp scope is 6.5-20x40 Leupold
Pictures out of order again, top one is the No.1 that I had rebarreld to .204 Wasp. It was a .225 WW when I bought it used and put the 15X Unertl on it. I like to show it because I always thought it looked like a real prairie dog killer and it was.

Stopped using rifles 25 years ago and switched to Thompson Contenders or Encore. This is a 14 inch SSK 357 Maximum barrel and group was @100 yds.

My favorite Contender pistol is an
SSK 309 JDJ which is based on the 444 Marlin necked down to 30 caliber. A Nosler 165 gr BT @ 2375 fps from 14 in barrel does a number on deer.

Don't remember whether I posted this project here. Did not intend to do a 30 Nosler, I just wanted to rebarrel my 300 Win Mag with a Bartlein CF M40 replacing the Schneider M40 for weight reduction. Into the chambering I noticed the reamer being too fat. Sure enough it was, I grabbed the 300WSM instead of the 300WM. I did not want a 300WSM, but don't have shank left in CF if I were to lop off the screw up.

Alex Wheeler to the rescue. He pointed out that the 300WSM and 30 Nosler share the same parent case, chasing the previously reamed halfway finished 300WSM chamber with a 30 Nosler reamer would be the easy button. With his help the chambering job was finished.

Though I did not plan on building another rifle, due to my screw up I did. The spare 700 LA came in handy. Pete Pieper opened up the bolt face, installed a Sako extractor, bushed the FP hole and mod the pin.

I still had to rebarrel the 300WM, used a fluted Wilson, can't afford another CF.

Will follow up with precision load work with N570, 215 Hybrids, and ADG brass once my March 2.5-25x52 comes. The one in the pictures was a loaner from March which was returned to them already.

The Sillywet wood looks nice, but will still have it rebed in a McM Game Warden for hunting. Maybe I can sweet talk someone here to take on the project. Any takers?

Nice rifle.. Whats a 300 Super ?
Jim Cloward said it was a custom that he made and that Jarrett copied it in the 300 Jarrett. It can be made from fireforming Weatherby 300 Magnum brass. I tend to believe him because of his fame as the armorer for the Palma team..............and making 100s of custom high power rifles. I have heard that he is retired and has gone blind. His phone number no longer works. Thanks to the unknown original photographer!

My wife took this pic.

I would like to ask, please, your wife to allow me to use this photo. I was a big customer of JK Cloward............but somehow left my camera at home! I sure would like any more she might have. Jim was a treasure!!

Had ACL surgery 7 weeks ago, shot this rifle the weekend before. Figured on Friday I could shoot the other loads I made the first time.

Friday’s results.

And today I had good intentions of trying the five loads I put together last night. I got one load down range, chambered the 4th round and decided the mirage and wind had gotten a bit intense through the 10 power scope all of a sudden. I pulled the fourth round and called it. After all, there is a component shortage and I only have 2 pounds of H4350 left….

21 rounds through the barrel.
