Primer prices - having a laugh?

Yes, it is frustrating.

Yes, it is impacting most shooters.

But primers are less about cost, more about availability. While.$0.14 a round is not as good as $0.05 per round, projectile costs have gone from $0.40 to $0.60, and powder from. $0.19 to $0.25. If you can find either one that you want in stock, you buy it regardless of price cause someone else will.

EVERYTHING is high, in demand, and low in stock.
It is the new normal for at least another 24 months.

Lucky for me I haven't the time to shoot as often as I want, so I get by. But, I sympathize those on a fixed income like many of you.

This is my first time dealing with scarcity (I just rode motorcycles during the last ones), but you can bet I'm gonna stack it deep when prices drop.

The problem is people are willing to except it as the new " NORMAL" theres 50,000 members here i would bet if every member would just say F.U. just for a month you would see it getting better.
To many people act like there " life sustaining" at this rate my Grandson will have to have a second job just to shoot.
You can bet your A$$ it will happen again and primers will be 250-300.00 a thousand and powder 100.00 a pound and thst will be the new "NORMAL"

So here is a bit of info and a couple of questions to stimulate some thought. I'm in southwest Montana. Not exactly on the main grid for reloading supplies if you know what I mean. Murdochs Home and Ranch store has been getting primers in with some degree of regularity over the last 4 or 5 months. Typically they get in CCI 400's or 450's and they price them at $4.50 per sleeve or $45 a brick. You can buy 5 sleeves per day, and around here they may last 3 or 4 days. So the questions are.....
1. Does anyone think they are selling these primers at a loss?
2. Does anyone think that a relatively small player in the reloading component world, has greater purchasing power than the big online players such as Midway, Brunos, Brownells or any of the others?
3. If Murdochs can sell these primers at $45/brick then what do you think the above businesses are paying for primers?
4. Does anyone think that those businesses charging crazy high prices are not bending the shooting public over for the simple sake of greed?

Sure the manufacturers have raised prices, but there most certainly an element of greed from the retailers that is in play also. I get the whole supply/demand thing and capitalism, but I think as shooters and consumers that we should take note of those who take advantage during difficult times.

While I understand your sentiment, I do not agree that it will change a thing.

There are MILLIONS of new shooters, all buying 9mm and 223/5.56. When ammo manufacturers can get $0.50 a round for FMJ 9mm and $1.00 a round for reject 5.56 55gr M855, guess where the next order of brass and copper is going? And you think that are going to sell primers when they can't keep their own lines supplied with them? The only thing that moves this capacity back to retail components is if the profit margins are there... hence price increases. They will charge what the market will bear, and right now they are trying to find that line.

Until there is a huge drop in demand for a long time (I think backorders alone are a good 6 months of production supply), nothing is going to happen.

IMHO, The only thing that will change that timeline is we move into a global recession.

loss as in potentioal profit, yes, loss based on cost no
BUT
they likely have a corp buy at fixed price based on a year or 2 ago. walmart is the same when 22rf ammo was impossible to get they sold at last years price...corp fixed price contract. NOT NORMAL...ONLY THE REALLLLLY BIG GUYS

The problem right now is CCI is the only one in the game. With Remington, Winchester, Wolf, and Federal out of the picture they can demand pretty much any price. I don't know anyone but the current generation and new reloaders that are paying the high prices. They don't know what prices were 5 years ago. And if there's any old fools paying the high prices, shame on you, you should know better. Let's be patient, prices will come down.

and how much did haz nat and shipping add..
I believe with hazmat and shipping price would be an additional $45. I got the notice and they were gone in 3 minutes. I'll bet they are now for sale for $150 per 1K. It's a business, don't buy it!

So here's my theory on this. Let's say Murdocks placed their order a year ago and that price was $45 a brick. Now CCI fills their order and they have to honor the price. Does Murdocks purchasing agent not know the current price of primers or does that person have so much to handle it went right by him?

Who creates the demand? Its my point.
The shooting world is gonna go the way of Nascar, Football, Basketball were only a few can afford to compete if shooters dont wake up. I watched it happen with Nascar when I was involved in late 90's and early 2,000's now you have Hendricks, Gibbs. Stewart Hass win 95% of the races.

Their not, picked up SPM match 2 months ago.... new production $80k
That was a very limited production and it's being highly restricted by our government. Consider yourself lucky!. You should share that great find with everyone here.
