More to the story

Here in the wilds of WNY we are seeing shooters just quitting because of the scammers and shortages. Our trap shooters have fallen from 15 to 20 on a Sunday morning to 4 or 5. How can there still be a shortage if half the shooters have quit shooting? Therefore quit buying! Personally, I haven't done any shooting this spring, usually would have gone through 500 bullets by now. I am saving what few components I have and quit even looking.

There has got to be "more to the story"!

...Scammers, and hoarders causing shortages

Just like when .22LR was really short for a long time after the second Obama inauguration. Hoarders figured out that if they bought enough of it, they could create the shortage and sell it for 3-5 times the price.

I know of two Walmart stores (Walmart charged standard pricing) where managers didn't put .22LR out until they notified all their buddies. Who then all came in together and bought their allotment and promptly put it on gun sites for sale at 5 times the price. One got fired and the other...was put on watch. He worked there for at least a year after things loosened up. So, I don't know if he got fired for that.

That is the way with all gun stuff, though. Everybody waits until it's panic time. Then the hoarders/scammers go to work. Working on everyones fears who should have been buying regularly in the first place.

In my area interest in shooting is just as strong as it’s even been, plus we have a lot of new shooters and handloaders. Yes, new people to the hobby make the current situation harder but remember the more people that enjoy this sport and hobby the better as far as votes, laws and regulations go.

Scammers have hurt a few, mostly those who didn’t pay attention before they bought but that’s happening in many aspects of life. I’m in commercial construction, the scamming and games being played are every bit as bad, even worse in some cases. I hope Karma punishes every scammer out there, donkeys.

Its a shortage. Hysteria hasn’t helped. Definitely some fear concerning politics but the supply line will fill back just like it has after every shortage before although I’m not sure prices will get back to normal anytime soon. Eventually when product is sitting and getting dusty prices will adjust. I’m seeing ammo coming down a bit, AR sellers are starting to discount more. Powder is lasting longer than it was, might be awhile before we see any primer relief but it will calm. The question is when will it calm not if It will calm in my opinion.

Got an email linking to this from PV a few days ago. Apologies if it's already been posted.

Not everybody.

Ammos back on the shelves at all my local stores in central georgia. Just expensive. 6.5CM Hornady Match selling for $69? No thank you. Ill hold out until prices come down. It's there for the taking though. I never had an issue finding shotgun shells. The normal 100 round boxes at slightly elevated prices.

Not denying that there was an ammo shortage. But ammo is coming back. As far as the shortage we only have ourselves to blame. Retired guys waiting outside of academy on Thursday mornings to get the fresh ammo shipment. Same for walmart.

Everything's coming back slooooowly. Trickle effect. It is also quite a bit pricier. I'll wait also. I have enough powder, primers and bullets to get me thru 5-6 years of shooting. Could use some particular bullets but I'll survive and not have to shoot any less than I ever have. I am finding myself being more conservative in my regular shooting JUST because things are tough to find. Especially pistol ammo and shooting.

Larry's Pistol and Pawn has lifted most ammo purchase limits on walk in customers, some is even on sale. Bruno's has been advertising sales and availability for powders. I agree that by end of summer this could all be a memory. Prices will dip shortly thereafter, but may never get all the way down to 2018 prices just because of raw material price increases which is a whole 'nuther story with China manipulating metals markets.

I'm glad I stocked up over the years.
Yeah, what shortage? After Obama and during Trump, it was time to stock up. Those that weren't in their first rodeo did just that. In reference to the OP, I've talked to some that won't shoot the ammo they have. They're "saving" it because they don't know when they'll be able to buy more. Reminds me of the gas lines back in the '70s.

That's why I moved to Alaska in the 70s. I needed to make more money.
