Received this from a friend today. I believe that these are the facts on .22 rimfire ammo shortages.
"I was asked by some of you to talk to ammo manufacturers while I was at the NRA Convention to find out from them directly why there is such a shortage of .22 rimfire ammo.
I spoke with the sales manager of Federal and production engineers who work in the plants at Federal and Remington. All said they are making “millions†of .22 rounds per day. All said they would not give out exact production numbers because they don’t want their competitors knowing what their production capabilities are. All said they are running their lines 24/7. The engineer from Remington said he has been heavily involved in coming up with innovative Preventative Maintenance programs to make sure the lines get the maintenance they need while maximizing production.
They all gave pretty much the same answer to why there are ongoing shortages: Very simply it is hoarding of one type or another. Because of the shortage created by hoarding, many people across the country are seeking to make money off the created shortage. These unscrupulous people buy up all the .22 ammo they can and then resell for far above retail prices. I know for a fact this is going on where I live. Because of these bastards, the guy who used to come in and buy a couple boxes can’t find ammo, so when he can, he buys all that he can which creates even more shortage. Then another whole reason I never thought of but they all mentioned it and know it to be factual through their research - people hoarding it as “barter stock†for a shit hitting the fan event.
All 3 express confidence that sooner or later (and they thought sooner) people are going to have their hoard and this is going to end. All 3 expressed concern for when that point is finally reached because there are so many millions of rounds sitting in people’s basement all over the country that they fear it will nearly idle their production facilities.
For those of you who sure there is a “conspiracy†tied to this shortage, they all assured me there is none."
