Are you guys paying this much?

Have you checked the price of boats lately? Rods, reels, lures, and gear are all up on price. Don’t even get me started on the price of gas that it will take to get your rig to the lake and run it all day. I was averaging over $100 per outing when I sold my last rig eight years ago and that did include boat payment, maintenance, or insurance.

Bottom line, shooting gear and components are far from the only things with rising prices. I bought lunch for myself and a shooting buddy yesterday and paid over $30 for two hamburgers, fries, and soft drinks at a Five Guys in Western PA. My wife spends more at the grocery store and gets less every week. I’m honestly scared to think about what things will be like by the time this four years are over. In the grand scheme, shooting components are probably the least of our problems.
Inflation is coming. It’s already here in many ways. And it’s because we collectively insist our government spend money on all kinds of things but not tax us to pay for it. 1970s policies lead to a 1970s economy. No surprise there.

Once you understand that everyone is a hypocrite when it comes to economics, it makes more sense. We all want lower prices for the things we buy, but higher for what we sell. We all love freedom for ourselves but are ok with less for the other guy who does something with it we don’t like with his freedom. We are all for lower taxes for ourselves and higher for those others not paying their share. Our self interest is rational; someone else’s self interest is greed.
Wow Hohn The Truth. You venture into dangerous territory. Although those who live off of those of us willing to work....no sympathy for them

The US Federal Reserve is suppose to have one job - establishing monetary policy - i.e. regulate interest rates to control inflation.

Instead, the Federal Reserve is staffed with investment bankers and Wall Street insiders and seems to be solely focused on propping up the stock market.

They claim the current inflation is "transitory" due to the COVID 19 crisis. I not conspiracy advocate and I'm not as smart of those guys so I hope they're right but inflation has been rising, at least around here and is showing no signs of easing. My father had a saying, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer.

As far as prices for reloading components, I started using Blue Collar Reloading based on a recommendation from one of the Forum members. While their supply is as limited as most, they did have some bullets I was looking for and at a significant lower cost than Midway.

If the prices Midway list becomes the norm, I may have to become a ground hog watcher instead of hunter since I try to live on a fixed income. That would make Miss PETA happy I'm sure. ;)

You are correct about the "cost" of boat ownership and the price of gas, maintenance etc.. However, since 2008 we (the shooting industry) have experienced two fairly long-term component "shortages" both of which ended up in rising prices. AND if we don't soon get primers, it won't matter how much we pay for bullets OR powder, you won't be able to shoot anyhow. When was the last time you saw a "shortage" of rods, reels, lines or lures? I for one get sick to death of constantly having to search and "forage" for components! I am growing weary of the "fight to shoot" >>>> I am about ready to simply go to a Bass Pro Shop or some such place and pick out anything I want (because it will most likely be IN stock) and go and do some fishing without fear of worrying about using up components... "Non-aggravating" hobbies have a special place in my heart..

I definitely understand! Prices aside you are absolutely correct about being able to buy what you want when you want and the frustration of not being able to find a product.

I had no dilutions of saving money, but I was boat shopping when I had to put a new roof on my house in February, so I decided to push those plans off for another year.

I'm already invested deeply into
G-Loomis.
Sold my jet sled a couple years ago, but have friends with drift boats.
Dont ever tell my wife she's right, but maybe this shooting hobby has gotten outta hand.

I've got enough powder and primers to outlast this administration, but lead is a different story.
Do I buy it to leave on the bottom of the river or send it into a berm at the range.1622470761064780928996304292793.jpg

I’m pretty invested as well. This is a few of my rod and reel combos that I pulled out last week. I also kept all of my tackle boxes which are loaded and ready. Just need the boat.....A355CCB6-92FA-48C5-9843-8CF55D12A1DE.jpeg

I am a B-I-G fan of G-Loomis and St. Croix! Their rods / blanks are excellent! I am invested heavily in saltwater rods and reels>>>because I lived in Houston Texas and fished constantly in The Gulf. Now in Arizona, I will have to "re-stock" up on freshwater equipment.. Researching and buying fishing "stuff" is, to me anyhow, part of the fun! If you are like me, judging from the photo, you believe "shopping for fishing stuff" is all part of the fun!!

Then everyone else will find themselves in the same boat (no pun intended). Soon after you'll be fighting for a spot to park, place to fish, etc...

Yeah, I had bacon on my list at the store the other day. $11 and change for a pound, left it there.

About 5-6 years ago, a guy popped up here selling Sierra bullets in bulk for ~$180/1000. Luckily, my father’s and grandfather’s lectures drove me to buy heavy. I bought what I thought was a “lifetime supply”. After some back and forth negotiating, I got a 10% discount on 30,000 bullets. I’m good!

Another way to check the "Value" of our currency is to just check the exchange rates with other currencies on the world market, including 3rd world countries currency. - Its very obvious that the U.S. Dollar has considerably De-Valued in 2021 due to the massive printing of our currency for bail-outs and other crap that the political jesters have taken to.

Most of my gear is salmon and steelhead.
Salmon rods will double as a plunking rod for big cats,10' steelhead rods will cast a rubber worm like nobody's business.
I took 2 rods on our honeymoon to Maui. Never caught a thing, but I did straighten out a really big hook 1 evening.

I was just looking for 25 caliber bullets.
Precision Reloading is asking $73 for 110gr Hornady Interbonds.
So to me $70 for Bergers isn't unrealistic.

I also wonder how these reloading places are still in business with no supplies.
I mean if your business is selling stuff, kinda hard when there's no stuff to sell.

Sometimes it's just as much fun as shooting a 200-19X!

And.....the fuel for my boat is pretty cheap too!

I honestly believe ol Larry has plenty of buying power to acquire goods at a reasonable price. He's marking goods up for higher profits.
Nothing wrong with that, more power to him. I wont be a customer by choice.
There's plenty of other suppliers selling the same goods that aren't taking advantage of the end user.
These folks are the ones that'll get my business.
I seem to remember hearing something about a "Golden Rule", or is that just outdated now??

To me, the Hornady Interbonds have always seemed pricey. But I suppose when you compare them to accubonds that are only sold per 50 they're not entirely out of line.
