Digging Deeper into COVID-19

This has been a long and enlightening discussion from both sides of the issue. The best take away from this discussion is everyone has to make the decision for themselves based upon information deemed important to them.

If you decide to take the Vacine then you should be protected from those who do not. If you decide to not take the Vacine then you accept responsibility if you do or do not become infected.

I think this should be up to each individual and should be respected by those who chose otherwise. We are supposed to be human beings with the freedom of choice.

I'm just north of Austin, Josh. Our county will not test unless you present all the symptoms of covid, so the presymptomatic and asymptomatic are the walking wounded that are rapidly spreading the disease yet going undetected, and the skyrocketing case count is confirming that. No masks required in our county, never have been so we're a long way from being done with this bug, especially since the talking heads in Austin have decided to open things back up. Are they certifiably stupid, or are they planning on using the pandemic to game the Nov. election? We'll know the truth come October.

Yesterday was the first day of the so-called opening but with conditions. So far, no county or city has met the conditional requirement to open, yet sudden uptick in traffic on the roads said otherwise. People can't seem to take this seriously. As for me, I won't be spending my money at any store that does not require masks being worn.
The only study on wearing masks, shows that they do nothing to prevent the virus, and, in fact, do more harm than good. But maybe wearing 2 or 3 would do the trick, eh?

I am not a scientist - for that matter, most of my acquaintances would tell you I never got past 3rd grade. I read (and tried my best to understand) every response, every post in this thread. The only really verifiable answer to almost every question that I have not seen is, “We don’t know.” Apply that answer to these questions:
1. Are there going to be long-term after effects of the ‘vaccine’?
2. How much do we know about the origins of COVID-19?
3. Does Dr. Fauci know his ass fro his elbow?
And the list goes on. The honest answer, the one we never hear, is “We don’t know.” There is nothing wrong with not knowing. There is a tremendous amount of harm to be done in running around in the dark, screaming, “Follow me!”. But - we are all free to make our own choices. I will make mine. You make yours.

This thread is really depressing. There is so much misinformation out there and for many it is more appealing than truth. If you’re worried about long term effects of the vaccine, which introduces part of one viral protein into your body, you should be far more worried about the long term effects of the entire virus. The mRNA vaccines were based on more than 20 years of basic and clinical research (developing the technology), and then underwent clinical trials with more than 40,000 patients, and now millions of doses have been given without significant adverse effects. Having taken care of COVID patients, I couldn’t get the vaccine fast enough and all my colleagues felt the same way. It literally seems crazy to me that some many believe the absurd lies that are circulating about vaccines.

I hope someone can answer this question.

Why would someone who has taken the Vacine and wears a mask be scared to go in a store where other people do not wear masks?

If the Vacine works and the masks prevent you from getting the virus then are you not safe?

Why should you be concerned if I choose not to wear a mask? Do you not have faith in the protective gear and Vacine?

This a serious question I hope someone can answer for me.

I HATE and I mean HATE masks. That being said, I have been in contact with several positives in my plant and it is 110db inside so we are in each others face talking. My FIL who passed away from it was given a hug from my wife, my children and I on christmas day and he had it then unknowingly. Do the masks work? I don't know. I do know I have not got it and I've been all up in others business who were confirmed positives. I still hate masks.

Everyone on Earth will eventually receive & harbor the virus (like a common cold), whether vaccinated or not.
What has been mismanaged about this, is pretty much everything imaginable.
There is no single thing about it that has not been sabotaged to cause highest damage.

And the same people who go out of their way to hurt us with this, are pushing vax with extreme obsession.
Trusting them,, trusting the media,, or trusting mere sheep,, it's not rational to do so.
Well, if you're the type of person who would assign credit to Pelosi's impeachment charges, and countless other projections, then it's probably rational for you. Not for me (my type).

But like most humans, me & my family will be forced to accept the poison. Cancel culture will ensure it.
I don't yet know why. All I know so far is that it has nothing to do with a SARs virus.

For what it’s worth, since getting the vaccine, and especially since more data has come out on effectiveness, I’m not really that concerned about wearing a mask for my own protection in most settings. I still do at work, of course. That being said, masks are probably more effective at protecting others than the wearer, and since none of the COVID vaccines are 100% effective (just as no other vaccine is), I wouldn’t blame anyone for preferring to avoid the unmasked in public settings for now.

Thank you, good explanation. I for one have nothing against wearing a mask and have to admit I went to a gun show 2 weeks back and did wear my mask. Reason being the aisles were packed.

My perspective is that the people that are not wearing masks and have not received the Vacine have made a conscious decision to take the risk. So why all the blowback from some people who have the vaccination and wear masks? If they have done everything they believe to protect themselves.

The problem I have is there seems to be many people who simple want to force other people to abide by their decisions.

Basic hygiene and maintaining a healthy immune system will do people a great deal of good. If people want to wear masks then wear them. If you are in fear then keep to yourself - people motivated by fear can do nothing worthwhile for others. If people want to be inoculated then do so. If you don't, then don't.
Out of all the B.S you here from the government and CDC this paragraph above is about the only thing I believe is a100% correct

That post was from a year ago. I would imagine his views may have changed since then.

One additional thought. Covid has shown us just how poorly populations handle crisis, it doesn’t take long for things to go downhill. Before Covid I had never heard of the influenza that ravaged the world in 1918, the stats are mind boggling. After reading up on how that affected the world I couldn’t help but wonder what would have happened if we experienced something similar today. Covid is a serious pandemic, now imagine something that had a much higher death rate. Hopefully we never experience a scenario along those lines. This has been a very big learning experience for me, I have a few areas I can improve on as as being prepared.

Anti-vaccine rhetoric has been on the rise for a while now and long before COVID came along. I think we can thank how well vaccines actually work for that bit of nonsense gaining any traction in our society; people have forgot the horrible diseases that vaccines have rid us of and have the luxury of fabricating truths that suit their emotional beliefs.

I wasn't surprised one bit that anti-vax rhetoric came to the fore-front of the COVID discussions and it definitely didn't help that the science and health messaging has been bungled at every turn from top to bottom as each organization to touch it tries to manipulate the public response and outcome.

My wife works in skilled nursing and went through several outbreaks in her building, each time traced back to careless behavior by staff or family members of patients. Patients died of COVID in those outbreaks and I'm not sure the guilty parties ever acknowledged to themselves that they killed some people when they exercised their "rights" to not follow the safety regulations in the buidling. It's not just about your freedom to risk it when it endangers other's lives. What's that old addage: My liberty to swing my fist only extends as far as the next person's nose.

I am not an anti-vaxer however after much reading and researching information on Covid my wife and I (who is a Nurse Practitioner and did discuss the vaccines with other medical personnel) chose to not get any of the vaccines. About 10 days ago I started feeling ill and thought I had a run of the mill bug. I've been pretty compliant with wearing my mask (not certain this prevented anything), washing my hands etc. since the "pandemic" was pronounced so I did not think I had contracted THE covid virus. Of course I passed my bug along to my wife. The first 2 days we both felt pretty crummy with headaches and cough. Since then we have been improving every day with symptoms now gone. On day 5 we were eating lunch and noticed we could not hardly taste anything - ding, ding, ding! At that point we assumed we had contracted the virus. I will add we are both in excellent health at ages 72 and 70 with no issues. I was able to after day 3 resume my daily weight lifting and walking for several miles on our treadmill. As others have stated in this thread taking the vaccine is a personal choice and I'm grateful we've had this choice. I can see how this virus could be extraordinarily hard and worse on the very elderly and those with significant health issues so I understand them obtaining the vaccine.
