Local gun store selling on gunbroker for absurd price

Thanks. Where I got my info was an ammo manufacture in Georgia that I know well. He used to pay a penny a primer. Then it went to 4.5. and he stopped when it got to 14.5. but maybe I heard him wrong. Because I can't see him paying that and you're not for selling it.

Also can I get a brick.

Also which state are you in?
We're in NC and when we get primers now days, they go one box of 100 per customer a day. I have heard that a few of the other stores around here are charging $45.00-$50.00 for a 50 round box of Magtech 9mm ball ammo, the same stuff we are selling for $19.99 a box of 50. We got at least 3 price increases on ammo and loading components last year and looking for more this year but we still make a good profit margin selling at our prices. I don't how long it will be before we get a decent shipment of ammo and loading components again but it will not be marked up 100's %.

If the past 8 years has taught me anything, it's to keep ahead of ammo/component shortages by staying stocked and buying components when there's a good deal or just during times of plenty, I'd strongly urge those complaining about "ridiculous" gun store prices to start getting in the same habit..I don't blame the LGS for doing what they feel necessary to stay afloat bc I'm already prepared for times like this. Remember the kids story about the ant and the cricket??

If I was an LGS I’d list 100 packs for ~$5 (limit 2) and 1000 packs for $200. If I had regulars I knew, I’d sell the 1000 packs for normal prices but why should I supply Joe Schmoe his GB inventory?

I never knew there were so many rich crazy people.

I have enough primers to last for a while. I could sell some but i will not, i am not adding to this feeding frenzy. What would it cost to replace them if i did sell some? With the administration we have now and the way that they got in power, we may never get anymore. I suspect the ones that are out of everything now, will not stock up again in the future, but the fact that they all may stock up scares me the most. If that happens we will never see stocked shelves at the LGS.

Just got back from a local gun shop. Owner has been telling me for weeks a shipment of primers were coming in keep checking with him. Today, I ask and he wants to know what my offer is, quotes GB prices and how much does he like me. Told him apparently not much, out of my price range. I don't blame him, just wish he would have told me up front.

Learned my lesson in the clinton era.

I stopped by a local gun shop this weekend to get a couple things that I knew he had, 1 lb of H1000 and 2 bags of 6ARC brass. I found out he had pulled most of his stuff off the shelves and has it all listed on gunbroker now. Funny thing about that is that me and him had a talk about this a week or so before, when I was in there buying a gun from him. He wouldn't sell me primers unless I bought the same number of bullets from him which I passed on because his bullet selection is very slim and hardly ever more than 1 100rd box of the same bullets. I also asked to buy the brick of 22lr ammo that he had for the rifle that I was buying from him and he would only sell me a couple 50rd boxes of it. He said he was doing this to prevent people from buying everything and then price gouging on gunbroker. I respected that and didn't complain at all. Actually planned on doing most of my buying with him after hearing that. Now only a week later he is doing it himself. Couldn't believe it.

Well guys, I guess my screen name says it all!! I have a cousin who is into long distance shooting and reloading and he has tried to get me involved for 5-6 yrs and now I decide to jump in! Having just purchased a 6.5 creedmoor to get my feet wet and a Hornady AP press I am left trying to scrounge components. I have resorted to GB to get enough material to at least get started. Powder $100+ per pound, bullets, $1.00 ea, primers $325 for 1k, brass $1.00 ea. It makes me feel better when I don’t go to the on line sites and see what I should be paying. When I get enough to start I will stop buying and wait for it to come back to earth. And it will one day. The stock market and real estate have taught me to be patient. In the meantime I will read your posts on reloading and shooting and learn what I can. As to the start of this thread, it was obvious after a short time that many shops are not stocking their supplies and selling on GB. If I had to make my living selling these items I honestly don’t know what I would do BUT I wouldn’t lie!!
No clue where you are but if NE Ohio or anywhere near Cleveland Ohio shoot me a PM. I will give you some large rifle primers as in give not sell. If you are close I'll give you 500 large rifle primers. Sadly I don't have any 6.5 bullets or I would give you some of them too.

I think I'd make sure those local gun shop guys know that the internet sales door swings both ways. They can sell on Gunbroker right now, and I can buy online from someone else after this frenzy goes away. Give them a little insight into what the future might bring.

Have several friends that work the big box sporting goods store and they are seeing local gunshop owners every day purchasing trolling the ammunition purchasing as much as they can and then stocking there shops and charging 2 x more than what they just bought for GOUGING PRICES THIS IS VERY SAD WHAT IS GOING ON JUST MY 2 CENTS

Not all big retailers are selling at high prices. I have seen prices overall going up, especially ammo. I did purchase a box of 270 ammo and 1500 CCI 400 primers at a local WM. Primers were $3.97 / 100 so this is encouraging.

If he sells it at the normal price, then someone else is gonna buy it and sell it on gunbroker for $300. Profit should go to him

Another question. Would you complain if he put primers on sale 3 years ago for $15/1000 because he had too much in stock? Or would you buy them?
This retailer is putting his shop’s reputation at great risk by raising his primer prices by a factor of eight. We own a medium sized gun store and we have not increased our margin on any of our merchandise. The wholesale cost we pay to our distributors has increased a modest amount so our prices are up only slightly whereas the other stores in our area have raised prices a lot. Our customers see this and comment favorably.

GREAT JOB

The gouging won't stop until people stop paying the stupid prices. I might have to play golf or go fishing for a year or so but I won't be raped by somebody cruising the internet with a "bot" buying supplies before anybody else can get them and then reselling for huge margins. As long as we line up to be gouged somebody will continue to do it.

Good God...PLEASE do not play Golf..

I may go back to flintlocks. I can snap my own flints, and they are reusable and resharpenable. And I can make my own powder and cast my own bullets.
'I'm starting to wonder about it.
No way to pay$0.30 for a primer.
